Is Joe's Sports and Outdoors the new name of GI Joes?
That's good news for Portland. |

Off topic, but not necessarily will that always be the case. Many an "infringement" has been lost by the company that used the name first. Big companies are extremely adept (not to mention hypersensitive) at going after folks who dared to think up a name before they did...
Ahhh! Capitalism! |

Officially, it's because the company had long ceased being a military surplus outlet. But the chain is also beginning to expand out of Washington and Oregon in reaction to Dick's Sporting Goods' creeping into the West Coast market; I wouldn't be surprised if territorial claims might also have been an issue. Big companies will tolerate naming disputes as long as the competitor stays small.
Either way, a long-time corporate sponsor of Champ Car renewing their relationship is always a good deal. |

Staying small won't always help. A few years ago McDonalds went after a small tea shop in Scotland that had been so named (after its owner) for a long time.
