Lotus Information Please

Hello,
I am an historic racing artist who is having an extremley difficult time finding any information on this particular Lotus that I am painting.
It is the Lotus that Stirling Moss drove in the 1961 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. September 10th 1961. He usually drove for Walker racing in a Lotus 18 but for this race to better challenge the Ferrari's of Hill and Von Tripps Team Lotus let him drive Innes Irelands team Lotus 21 # 28.
I pride myself on my paintings being 100% acurate in every detail of the era, but this one is driving me crazy!
Does anyone know if the number circle on the nose of the Team Lotus 21 in 1961 used by Innes Ireland and borrowed by Stirling Moss had a horizontal stripe through the circle wrapping the nose (similar to the Walker racing team) or did it have a yellow Team stripe from the windshield down through the nose, or was it just a circle?
I have been searching reference archives for over a month now.

Thanks for any help,
Tom Mecozzi

Hi Tom,

Welcome to 10/10's 'fraid I cannot help you much though. Have you tried the old issues of Autosport and Motor Sport ? A few people here have some collections that could help you out. Failing that perhaps a letter to Stirling himself, doubt that he will recall it but he might just have a photo.

The car had Walker RT top bodywork, ie dark blue with the distinctive 'wristwatch' around the nose, but with works (green) lower bodywork

David and SL,

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! You guys are incredible. I never realized that the car would be painted this way. Now I can go on with my year-long obsession!
