It will also come as no surprise that he caused the first red flag in testing yesterday (Saturday).

I do like Speed as a personality. He conforms to the typical (and largely innaccurate) American stereotype. Loud, arrogant, brash, irritating. But this makes me laugh a lot so it's all good.
As a driver, well, I'm afraid he is somewhat average and I'd be surprised to see him last after 2007. He just hasn't got it. He's just another, less extreme Liuzzi. |

Wow you guys are hard the those boys -- You have no baseline to compare drivers who ran the only rev limited engine in all of F1 last year visa vi the rest of the field -- Lets see what happens this year when they're at least running the same type of engine as the others -- Personally I think they're both very talented. And If Toro Rosso has a good year this year, you're going to have to scramble to find a rationalization as to why the team did so well -----> I say rationalization because human nature being what it is, most people never admit when they're wrong, {and in this case that would mean admitting the drivers were better than they thought} they just make an excuse be it the truth or not, so they don't look bad themselves.

No, I would admit I was wrong. I have been wrong many a time and will be many times again!
But I have never seen anything in Scott Speed to excite me through GP2 or F1 and that is what is worrying. For Liuzzi, the problem is not talent, but commitment. And it is very difficult make a lazy person more committed, particularly someone who has a great deal of money in the bank! |

Speed did not impress me too much last year either. There are quite a few drivers that did not impress me so if they are in a car then I see no reason for him not to be. Sato, DC, RB etc. were just there taking up space but they had their contracts renewed or continued. Oh I forgot both drivers from Toyota.
The good thing about Speed is his youth. Speed has time to perfect his craft. The car he had was not great and he was just about as good as his teammate for during the season. Luizzi was a little faster I think but no enough for him to be removed from the team. |

Well as a baseline Liuzzi was with Red Bull prior to Torro Rosso. Both were subject to the comparison of Bourdais doing a better job within three test sessions. I think they're both okay, but they don't appear to be exceptional as far as F1 drivers go.

No surprise from this perspective. Neither he nor Liuzzi really did anything to separate himself from the other at Toro Rosso last year. Given that Tonio has been resigned and that every other capable Grand Prix driver Dieter and Gerhard might sign is either under contract somewhere else, retired, or stigmatized out of Formula 1, there is no reason that Scott should not have been given another go. I doubt he has the talent to become a champion of the sport, but hasn't stopped any number of midfielders to hang on for at least two years.

reckon he probably deserved a 2nd year - he's gotta be better than any pay driver that minardi or any other team fielded....
good luck to both str drivers |

Last season was a bit of a non-event for both drivers at Toro Rosso as you couldn't exactly judge them compared to the rest of the grid due to the engine they were using.
This season they will be judged and frankly I don't think either of them are that special. |

was alonso special in the minardi - look how he turned out.... really is a matter of making the most of opportunities - right place, right time sort of thing...
liuzzi won f3000 when it was coming to an end, but he was some sort of special talent - where is bjorn wirdheim. jan magnussen was a better british f3 driver than senna (according to jackie stewart)... shall be great to watch, whatever happens |

Well Scott did well in testing today,
faster than both Red Bulls, both BMWs and both Toyotas I'd like to see him have a solid year. |
