Yimkin should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Special Saloons - the early cars (1965 - 1975ish!)

Can anybody remember this car?

It was a Ford 105E Anglia, which had had the body widened (!) by cutting it down the middle lengthways and new metal welded in. Oh, and it had a 3.8L Jaguar engine fitted - hence Janglia.

It was built, I think, by either Blair or Palmer of Blair & Palmer bus garages, Carlisle. I spotted it on top of one of their buses (just the shell) about 10 years ago, but wonder if it still exists.

Also interested in its contemporary history/success etc.

Thanks for any help!

IIRC the Janglia was campaigned by Mick Hill in the late 60s and early 70s before he graduated to a Capri with a Mustang (?) engine (again IIRC) These were fearsome machines, but pretty successful as I remember. Unfortunately all my mags from that period went up in a fire ....

Anyone know Gerry Marshall, because he would have raced against it ...

Sorry I may be wrong but I don't think that is the Janglia as requested by Yimkin!
Reason being when I first saw the photo, something from the back of my memory said ' That's the Tasman Anglia'.
If racing fxgt has the original photo it looks like some script above the 'Anglia' badge on the front that says Tasman. Secondly the photo of the engine is a Coventry Climax if that is the lump that went in it.
I remember it but don't recall the colour or who drove it.
The Janglia I remember as a mustard yellow driven by Mick Hill. It had loads of holes drilled in the boot lid to save weight all about 1 inch in dia and I remember seeing it race without rear window glass too!
Anybody remember a Tasman Anglia?

Been doing a bit of searching round the web and come across this photo of a Boss 5.7 Escort in 1974 I think it said. It's the Border Reivers car of Douglas Niven. Apparantly it won the heat in which it is pictured here and then was destroyed in the final when it somersaulted off over a toilet block!

#4 - Morris Minor pic

I've gone right back in our archives to dig this one out!
I have a feeling I know who it is now as I was chatting to Mike Bennion at Silverstone today. He raced a V8 Morris in the mid/late 60s and explained that the exhausts protruded sideways as in this shot. I asked him if the headlights were moved to the grill and yes they were! The car was blue but painted orange later with different exhaust system.
I will e-mail Mike a link to this thread as he seemed delighted that it could be seen on the web! He will confirm if it is or not but it looks promising. So if it is, it's not Irish afterall but Northampton based.

I dont recall seeing any lately, but there was a very hairy blue one in the late 60s with a 4600cc V8 installed!
It was raced by Brian Tarrant who was sadly killed. I think he was racing at Combe when the accident happened.
There was a picture of it on one of the 60s club racing threads, put up by racing fxgt.

Brian Tarrant was killed at Thruxton .I'm afraid to say that although he was a lovely chap, the car was a total dog , as I helped him with it on occasions.

ianselva, yes of course, Thruxton.
He tended to race mainly there and at Combe I recall, but I do remember him coming to Silverstone and Snetterton with the car.
