Powertour comes to Australia
I see that the people who promote truck racing in Australia have come up with a very unoriginal name to promote their show. The ASTRC is now headlining the bill for the Australian Powertour, which features Trucks and Nascar, now renamed as the Australian Stock Car Championship. I believe, Formula 3 and possibly also some Sports Car class are on the bill as well.
Has anyone seen this new show, what did you think of it? I admire any promoter who is game enough to believe that he can pull a crowd without the all-conquering Shell series. |

Hey there, Trucks are the second biggest show in Australia, down at Oran Park they pull 15,000 people no sweat, and with good reason. That meeting I went to last year was fantastic stuff.... The problem they have is that the rest of Australia hasn't been exposed to this sort of racing. Ok, the trucks at QR last year weren't too crash hot, but you can blame the track on that.
It's probably a good thing that they now have themselves organised, with a show that will remain constant for all rounds. Purists probably wont be too interested in it, but it is aimed at the folks who like the V8s i guess... |

Those years the trucks ran at Lakeside they had the second biggest crowd of the year, a little way ahead of the Historics, not really all that far behind the Tourers.
And you can't say they were promoted.... |

I guess those are the times....in the last few years the Trucks and the Sports Sedans have had their stand alone race meetings here in QLD, bombarded the screens with ads, yet nobody turned up...
Last year at Lakeside the biggest meeting was the Konica V8s, closely followed by the Super Tourers, in a tie with the Historics. No bike meeting was able to draw a decent crowd... but there were some ok club meetings...but nothing like there was there was in the olden days. |

Crash, regardless of the "official" figures, anyone who was present for all three meetings (like me) would tell you that the crowd for last year's Historic meeting was far bigger than the Super Tourers or Konica V8s.
Do you know if the PowerTour is coming to QR and when? Who will be in the support events? |
