Luyendyk will withdraw from Indy 500
Arie Luyendyk stepped out of his Indianapolis 500 ride this morning after proving to Indy Racing League medical director Henry Bock that he is still dazed from last week’s accident at the Speedway.

Awwww, that's really too bad! That means one less car too! Do you think he's going to retire forever now? He was always a good driver, but he IS getting sorta...old.

Arie is a bit old to race these cars and hasn't really shown the former form. We could see Max Papis in the car. Herta and Barron are also possibles.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I tend to agree with Michael (that sounds bad I know) that once you're retired you should be retired. I don't see the point in Luyendyk returning each year for Indy.

Was Arie doing Michigan this year as well like he did last year?
With Barren in the seat there goes the third Penske. |

It's a shame that Barron signing this deal means only 2 Penskes, and that really puts pressure on to actually fill the field with 33 cars.

Then why do Gil and Helio keep taking the 66 car out for practice?

There is speculation that SSMS might rent/lease one of Penske's cars.

Where's Richie Hearn? He's won an IRL oval event, usually brings it home in the top 8, and is very easy on equipment. He's finished 3rd at the Speedway, and with a solid car, and some luck, who knows? In a decent car, I don't think any of these other rideless guys have much if anything over him.

Hearn is rumoured to get the SSMS/Penske car if it runs, or the third Panther entry.

That's the veteran Arie Luyendyk, born in Holland and twice Indy500 winner, not Arie Luyendyk Jr who I believe runs in the IPS.
Okay, so I was wrong about the third Penske. It's fantastic to see Sam Schmidt getting a car out there, he is typical of the heroic people squeezed out by big money Last edited by BootsOntheSide; 17 May 2003 at 15:16. |

Jr. is out of the IPS race. His Grill2Go car lived up to its sponsors name and caught on fire on the first lap.

I can confirm Sam Schimdt had the car (a GForce) FOC from Penske; we can read an interesting sign from it; maybe Roger, testing both chassis, has found out Dallara the best choice, for the rest of the season; that is why he got rid of a GForce
