Finally we get to see this grandstand finish....
To quote James Allen
Finally we get to see this grandstand finish... in reference to the trulli/rubens/button scrap for 3rd place. We watch TGF do say 10 laps on his own....james utters the words as we cut to the last 10 laps of the GP with a close fight for 3rd and ITV go to adverts !!!! they moan that the French Director is missing the action, and as soon as he cuts to it, itv cuts to adverts ! Come on Sky get Bernie vison back !!!! I need an alternate to James and ITV |

Don't we all! The highlight of another procession at Magny Bore was the start, when the aggravating dullard failed to notice the red lights were in the process of going out and had to rush his intro like a chipmunk on helium. At least we were spared Martins poxy grid walk.

Yes. it's certainly been interesting watching a 50:50 split between exterior M Schumacher footage and onboard Alonso footage.
Good grief. |

Very poor direction from French TV.
I was disappointed not to have a Martin grid walk - but that may be down to the location of the commentary position in relation to the grid. |

James had another good moment today as well:
"Look at them! All three of them side by side down to the hairpin!" Referring to the Button/Trulli/Barrichello fight, just after Jensons stop, when they were in fact all line astern and before Barrichello even made a move! |

One man's opinion and one man's choice. Don't let that destroy this thread though, which I thought was about the poor choice of which driver to watch in the GP.
At first I thought it was because we had a Renault leading in France, but we still ended up with all Michael at the end. Last edited by Adam43; 4 Jul 2004 at 13:44. |

It's alright Jim has threatened to only show the Brits in Silverstone. No Jim, that is not the point. We want to see the cars close by, not Rubens overtake someone (earlier in the race) and have an apology for not showing it.

Hate it when those in charge of the camera's are too lazy to consider there are 19 other cars on the track.
Especially considering the only place any action happens is the mid-field. Foolish. Fire that man. ITV already threatening to put it right next week though. Expect to see Jensen Button for 90% of the race next week folks. |

Well at least I'll be at Silverstone in person and won't have to endure possibly the worst footage of any sporting event I have ever witnessed.
Unless someone erects a giant screen with ITV coverage! |

ITV generally do a good job with their direction of the British Grand Prix, to be fair.

To be fair...there were plenty of British drivers in the mid-field last year.
Now Button's the golden boy - I don't expect it to be so encompassing. Looks like Trulli's going to get beaten up by Pat Symonds later |

The direction today was appalling - the way they completely missed the last lap battling for 3rd, coupled with the constant obsession with Alonso and Michael even when there was no-one near them, really made the race seem less exciting.
If Jenson is running at the front next weekend, I won't mind the inevitable media obsession too much. Otherwise, it'll wind me up pretty quickly. |

So does anyone know what is gonna be plugged on next weeks GP coverage?
Are Jaguar running a film livery again, thus giving ITV the opportunity to interview some actors? Still, there'll be no football to plug! |

Terrible TV direction today, but one ITV can't be blamed for.
James still comes out with classics though doesn't he! "Maximum Bananas"- where did he did that one up from? |

This was always scheduled knowlesy - the F1 programme is billed to run for an hour after the race finish, so calm down!

This soccer stuff is running longer than the idiotic race analysis.
What's happened to Jardine by the way? His absence has been glorious! |

Funnily enough, the football stuff isn't getting interrupted by ad breakis, despite its length!

As we are talking about the host nations role in this, do you think it is time for the same TV personel at each GP rather than rely on homies? There have been calls for this before, but always scuppered by contracts that are in place. Surely if anyone can Bernie can. Of course, F1Digital+ would be nice again! The best (worst) moment was during yesterday's qualifying when M Schu was on his hot lap, James Allen just screamed "look at the speed!".
Awful man. |
