Apparently the story originated in Murdoch media and may well be yet another example of them getting motorsport stories completely wrong. Although - if negotiations underway, it may still happen...... |

The source quotes "multiple sources Supercars" and also states "Should it happen" Quoted from Motorsport website....... "It appears Crompton's exit was directly related to this plan to bring Masi into the Commission fold. Should it happen, it will be Masi's first role since his sensational split with the FIA following the controversial finale to the 2021 Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi. " It was "supposedly" waiting approval from team owners this past weekend at Sandown. |

Reading between the lines it seems Masi may have received multiple offers / has multiple options both home in Aus and overseas and is in no hurry to confirm any of them at this stage, happy to take a break as was his original plan. (Im sure his separation package with the FIA leaves him in no hurry or need to finalise an immediate deal to put food on the table)
I would suggest maybe one of those options / offers was the Supercars Commission Chair. It would appear some (Murdoch?) journo has heard of the SC Commision offer and assumed it was happening. Masi put that right with his 'Oscar like' I will not be statement as a clarification. Simply put Masi is a man with many options on the table, none of which he has agreed to at this stage. |

Don't know if that qualifies as investigative journalism or not - but I suspect not. |

There is also a difference between investigative reporting and simply wanting to scoop everyone else by getting anything heard into print and taking a scatter-gun approach to accuracy. |

The attempt for the Caltex brand's appearance on the MCM car at Bathurst this weekend to be linked to the SBR Falcon of Mr Ingall and other cars of the ilk (Ms Gracie was a recipient of their largesse too), conveniently ignores reality, where the SBR sponsor changed its name from Caltex to Ampol in 2020, and that Chevron (Caltex's brand owner) has added a bunch of Puma Energy stores, amongst others, into a newly launched Caltex brand. Which kinda never left as the conversion for Caltex service stations, and indeed the EG group variations with Woolworths attached, were up until recently still converting canopies and signage. Interesting, pedantic I grant you, but linking Old Caltex with New Caltex is coincidental not correlative. Lazy journalism... |
