Bourdais and Sauber

Sebastien Bourdais is rumoured to be in negotiations with Sauber over a possible test role, as are Formula Renault drivers Robert Kubica from Poland and Holland's Carlo Van Dam (what a name!!).

Its time Sauber get a proper test driver... any top teams need to run plenty of test miles to get their car to the maximum...and Sauber is no exception... but on the other hand...they are running tried and tested Ferrari engines...so they have much less to test.

From the rumors i heard...Bourdais is not only planned to be a test driver...but if things are true that Ferrari is planning to grap Massa, Bourdais could find himself in the Sauber race seat next year.

Bourdias has been around F3000 for three years now although he missed most of 2001 he was super quick in 2000 but was too ragged and sporadic to challenge for the title.
He took Pantano's seat at Super Nova this year.

Super Nova is now a Renault junior team, Surely he should be in frame for a Renault test drive?

I agree that Sauber needs a test driver. Bet Verstappen would be wondering why he didn't get the gig though.....

Sopposedly Jos didn't get it because he's much taller than Nick (who I think is one of the shortest drivers in F1 history) or Massa, and they needed someone who they could easily switch into the car during a race weekend if they needed to. A shame, but running into Montoya is never good for a career unless you're Michael.

If Bourdias & Carlo Van Dam is still contracted with Renault, surely Ferari wouldn't let Sauber hire either one of them. Sounds to me like another baseless rumour

2002-02-05 Carlo at RenaultF1 factory

From 29 January till 1 February Carlo and four other drivers visited the RenaultF1 factory for a training course at the team's Enstone (England) base as part of the Renault Driver Development programme (RDD).

At the Renault F1 Performance Centre at Enstone on Wednesday morning, the drivers were put through a fitness session by Bernie Shrosbree and his team of sports scientists. They did a condition and strenght test, a climbing wall session and a mountainbike session.

They also undertook a technical language course in English, and received media training as part of the programme, which is managed by Bruno Michel.
Besides this the drivers were also shown around in the factory, and were told about the production and development of the new car: the R202, and had a little chat with Flavio Briatore.
