Phoenix1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Best F1 quotes

Once in a while we have threads mentioning Murry, James and Martins mistakes and funny comments such as "The most important part of the car is the nut that holds the wheel".

While classics I thought of the reverse, moments of commentry that emotional (good or bad), inspire, or are legendary in your mind. Mine has to be "and I've got to stop now as I've got a lump in my throat" (Suzuka 1996). I might not make any not Damon Hill fans top ten but it is too me. At 14 years of age it was a moment I remember without reviewing tapes from the year.

Martin Brundle's said some good ones. I especially liked his respnse to Murray commenting that people were debating Ricardo Rosset's ability - "it's a fairly short debate Murray".

I always liked the analogy of carving through a field like a hot knife through butter as well. And, not F1, but I found "The car upside down is a Toyota" when Will Hoy flipped one in a BTCC race hysterical.

I particularly liked Jerez '97, but not the title hoo-ha, but Murray shouting; " Mika Hakkinen is going to win the European Grand Prix! " or something like that, you should hear the Finnish commentary then as well!

Actually, anyone know a link to the Murray quote anywhere?

We all know Sir Frank's disdain for the salaries paid to his drivers. This is not a recent phenomena. Even as far back as Alan Jones apparently.

One day AJ reported to work sporting some form of injury. Sir Frank's response was "What happened? Did you fall off your wallet?"

According to Sir Frank, it was too much whatever it was.

Another brilliant Brundle quip was about Yoong being on a 3 stop strategy...London, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur. The guy really can be very funny sometimes, unlike his "partner"

Irvine's come-back to Barrichello's comments a few years ago when Rubens said Eddie was too old and should move out of the way to let freash talent come in F1 was something like-

"i may be a little older than rubens but i'll never be as ugly"

Another good Irv quote I remember - when he was driving for Ferrari, at Monaco IIRC, a journalist asked him why Schumacher had a funny shaped helmet. Irvine's reply - "He's German, he's got a funny shaped head."

A good collection of Brundle quotes are here:

I know it wasn't during a race, but I always liked Irvine's matter-of-fact summary of his early career - "I got punched by Ayrton Senna after my first race,c rashed in my second, wrote off four cars in my third and got banned from my fourth. People are going to think I'm some sort of nutter".
