F1 Engine Stats
Sorry, it isnt a classic discussion thread, but rather a 'i have a question' thread and that sux a bit, i know
 Still, if you could share some stats on how different F1 engine manufacturers did so far in the history of formula one, I would really appreciate that.As fas as I know Ford won the most races so far, is that right? I've read it in an F1 book about 5-6 years ago, before the new Ferrari-era that was... do you have some up-to-date info on it? Also, now that they're about to replace the V10's, Im wondering how many GP victories the different type of engines (cylinders-wise i mean) have had? How about the in-line 8's? and the V6? V8? V10? V12? Cheers for any info you can supply on this subject

Well the Ferrari / Ford thing is the easiest to answer:
Ferrari 183 Ford 176 (154 by the DFV and 1 DFY!!!!) Renault 104 The type of engine? Well that'll take more research! I'm interested too. You will have to add straight 4s in there too from the turbo era. Staying with type of engine. Interestingly Ford have won all but two of their races with a V8. |

And the Ford V8 thingie is interesting indeed!So its safe to say that Ford is the most successful V8 maker and they will remain that for a few more years at the very least. In the light of this, Red Bull's decision of leaving Cosworth for Ferrari is a bit questionable... then again if having twice as many points in their debut season than Sauber(Ferrari) have wasn't fair enough a reason to stick with Cosworth, why would it be

I would say there is more difference between a DFV V8 and next year's new V8s as there is between this year's V10s and next years V8s. Cosworth next year don't have the backing of a manufacturer. Still, as you say, there are years of knowledge there.

I said this at the start of the V8 hype and still stand by, I am sure Cosworth could build the best V8 with there past experience where they favored the V8.
