WRC Coverage Reduced.
The Speed Channel has reduced its WRC coverage from the Same Day Coverage to a one week tape delayed two hour basis this year.

It's only you guys in the states that are having the coverage here in the UK, we are still going to get same day, but instead of having 2 half hours shows and 1 hour long show, we will be getting 3 half hour shows.

rd - any chance you know if they are going to cover any stages live this year? I'd presume if they do they'd be France, Germany, and probably us too, so as not to have too much a time difference.

Whatever happens, I hope we see the full potential of the new technology that was talked about a while back.

Maybe a little off topic, but the only fault there was with Channel 4's coverage last year was that were too many interview and not enough action, drivers were interviewed at the beginning of each stage, at the end of each stage, on the way to the service and then when they got to the service area as well! and many of the points that had been made couldn't be elaborated upon in later interviews meaning the quality of these interviews was somewhat lower than earlier ones.
Your thoughts? |

matt if you watched the extended coverage a few days after you got loads more in car - drivers swearing (normally a scotsman) - and less of the interview, bumpf, basically it was good coverage with the **** cut out.

Dave Richards mentioned something about live coverage on some stages last week, possibly from Finland onwards.
Re: C4. I just hope that they decide this year that they don't have to keep spoon-feeding new viewers with all the basics.Overall the Eurosport coverage is better (more action & less centred on the Brits), but as yet I can't get to see that regularly. It's useful what ss says about the late night compilation show - I'm going to give it a go. As for the Speedchannel coverage, that seems a big blow. Not only for the N. American fans now, but presumably it's going to slow the growth of rally following and reduce the chance of a US / Canadian WRC round in the near future. There's a thread in the Speed TV forums that is already 10 pages long, ,in which Speed asked for fan reactions. The VAST number of people checking in said "Same Day Coverage must stay!" Also the general concensus is that they want that time to broadcast NA$CRUD re-runs.

Allegedly Dave Richards has said that (particularly from a manufacturers perspective) the WRCs key TV markets are France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Britain and Japan, rather than the USA.
Sounds like it's time for fans in the Americas, Oz & NZ etc to fire up their e-mails ???? |
