Customer MG's
Taken from Totalmotorsport.com
'It's not going to be significant in terms of numbers - six are planned - but based on the performance of the MG Lola EX257 Le Mans car this year, Lola's just announced customer version of the LMP675 could be just the thing to have for 2002, if a place for the 675s can finally be pin-pointed. Other 675s have failed to make any impression on the 900 class cars, but the MG made a serious bid to split the Bentleys on the Le Mans grid this year, despite their acknowledged engine woes. Models of the new car will be on display to the media and customers alike at the British Motorsport Show in Yokohama, Japan, 5-8 October and at the Road Atlanta Motor Sports Center, Georgia, USA, 3-6 October, for the Audi Presents Petit Le Mans. The customer version (MG Lola EX257) will feature logical developments (of the MG originals) and full customer support. It will be available for U.S. and international teams for delivery from November 2001. It is expected to be eligible to race at Le Mans, in the ALMS, the ELMS and "pending further clarification", the FIA Sports Car Championship - where it will race against the SR1s, rather than in its own class - further confusing the prototype class structures world wide. The Lola Cars press release concludes with the news that "Advanced Engine Research (AER) have further developed the 2 litre, single turbo, 4 cylinder engine for power and reliability. This engine forms an integral part of the customer car package." David Bowes, Managing Director of Lola Cars International said that "Lola have had a number of serious enquiries for a customer Le Mans racer, and we currently plan a limited production run of up to six of the new 2002 customer specification Le Mans cars." Hmmmm.... so who do think will snap up these then? And where do you think they will end up racing? |

I'd imagine there'll be a big demand for the new car. I saw a picture in Autosport magazine the other week and the car was blue and orange, what's with that? are they that colour or was it just testing colours?

It's true to say that an LMP675 car has never really featured in the results at any major event, let alone Le Mans, but if there is one that has a real chance - especially with a little more development - it's the Lola/MG combination.
These 'babies' were seriously quick throughout the weekend and when the heavens opened nothing else got within seconds of the MGs' laptimes. Yes, there's the potential for a podium in these cars. In the right hands, of course... |
