OMP Overalls Lifespan

Does anyone know the lifespan of a set of OMP overalls to 8856-2000 spec.

Mine were manufactured in 2016 and I want to know when I will have to replace them.

Unlike belts and seats, race suits are not of themselves 'lifed'. They're valid for as long as the standard they're homologated against is a current standard.

The best guide is - if you think they're getting a bit old they probably are. The biggest problem with FIA suits is the polishing effect of sitting in them. They don't lose "flameproof" properties but the insulation becomes compromised.

As above, they don't really have lifing in the same way as other things, current regs for UK are:

Overalls
9.1. Clean Flame-Resistant overalls, must be worn to cover
from ankle to wrist to neck.
Acceptable standards:
9.1.1. Racing:
FIA 8856-2000
9.1.2. Special Stage Rallies, Sprints and Hill Climbs:
FIA 8856-2000
FIA 1986 Standard
9.1.3. Karting:
As defined in U.13.3.
9.1.4. All Other Events (including overalls in accordance with
Q.13.1.2):
BS6249 part 1 Index A or B (but not part C).
BSEN533
EN533:1995 Index 3
ISO 14116
FIA 8856-2000
FIA 1986 Standard.
9.1.5. For FIA Standard Overalls the homologation label will
be stitched into the fabric of the garment or on a sewn in label.
For International use overalls must comply with: FIA 8856-
2000

further to the above, the FIA introduced a new standard back in 2019 - FIA8856-2018. It runs alongside the -2000 standard but gives longer / better resistance to fire. If buying a new suit it would be prudent to go for the new standard. More info on the DTs site:
https://blog.demon-tweeks.com/motors...-it-affect-me/

Note that the new standard introduces lifing for race suits for the first time, at a reasonable 10 years.

I imagine that Grosjean was grateful for the extra protection in the Bahrain incident.

TBH David the standard for suits isn't much higher than it was when I was making suits 20 years ago. It's just that the materials are much lighter these days than back then, which makes the standard harder to reach. It's the underwear that has been causing difficulties apparently.

Full details are in Race Tech this month coincidentally.
