Three days after one champion driver from Hendrick Motorsports turned down an offer to compete in the IROC series, another one accepted. Jack Sprague, who won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series title in 2001, received an invitation to race in the four-event IROC series in 2002. His Hendrick teammate, Winston Cup champ Jeff Gordon, turned IROC down Tuesday, citing a schedule that was too hectic.
The only other confirmed drivers for 2002 at Busch Series champion Kevin Harvick, IRL champion Sam Hornish and fellow IRL drivers Scott Sharp and Buddy Lazier. Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, who is moving to the IRL from CART, tested an IROC car at Daytona recently but has not confirmed his participation.
