F1 club racing?

Is it illegal to run a F1 car in a club race? You think one of the smaller teams would do it for the publicity. Could be quite fun going around collecting lap records! If EJ reads this, I'd be happy to volunteer...

I think the main issue would be eligibility! There aren't many championships that would allow it, but a true Formula Libre event would. Ron Cumming occasionally races his Footwork in such races in Ireland, I think.

I was thinking single seater races at Stowe - Jordan have tested there and got a car round in 27 seconds (current lap record 38 seconds...). Euroboss F1 cars have to be more than 5 (?) years old?

Well it happened once-Boxing Day 1955,I saw Archie Scott-Brown win a Libre race at Brands Hatch,in a then current F1 Connaught.

Slightly louder!!! I think they are aloud (pun intended) something really stupid like 120dB (might be 112dB).

Or to put it another way, the Boss cars were louder over the opposite side of Brands Hatch (National kart circuit) than most cars were on the side of the circuit I was standing.

Once you got over the 'spectacle' of very loud cars it was the most boring race of the day because there were only half a dozen cars of fairly wide ranging speeds and driving abilities (and no I couldn't do any better) and nearly half the field broke down.

Deep in the dark annals of history, we had a thing called the Aurora F1 championship, where F1 cars a few years old raced in a competitive championship.
It died when F1 started to race away on a technology mad path way beyond the scope of the above average people who ran the old alloy monocoque cars with DFV's and Hewland boxes.

Mind you, we also had F5000, where you could feel the cars, not just hear a schrill V10 which does nothing for me at all.

The current crop of F1 cars are around 120dB, which is considered dangerous to hearing, yet hundreds of thousands of people enjoy going to Silverstone and other circuits around the globe to cause irrepairable damage to their inner ear.

I heard that. Pardon?

However, with modern technology, there is no reason why they cannot be silenced to an acceptable level. All of the old cods about "could be dangerous because the silencers might explode" is utter tosh. F1 spec (though detuned) engines have been used in championships all over the place where silencing has been mandatory.

So, back to the original thread..

If you can find a championship that will allow your one year old F1 car, then go ahead.

Remember that modern F1 engines require a squad of technicians just to start them.

The following applies to people aspiring to run a contemporary F1 car...

How to end up with a small fortune through motor racing....






Start with a very large one.

well Spirit shook down their first formula 1 car at a club day at Goodwood back in 1982, but I think it was kinda illegal....
