It's all to do with charge dynamics, pusling flow and harmonics. What it boils down to is making sure the engine has enough air to breath, travelling in the right direction, at as great a range of engine speeds/throttle openings as possible. Beyond that is beyond me really.
You'll probably find the two chambers are linked by one or more valves that open at pre-determined revs/throttle openings in conjuction with the variable valve timing to improve torque/power/economy (delete as applicable). |

Maybe they modelled it on two NHS carboard urine-box thingys... you know, opening up the market for carbon fibre toilet facilities? Go-faster pee-pee?

I must admit it looks a bit of "bling" probably giving a claimed 200 bhp extra !

Yep, thats what I reckon too, the harmonics/wave pulses of an airbox can be tuned for different areas of the rev ranges but when you introduce valves, (sometimes 3-4 valves in VVT engined cars intakes, a bit like a wind instrument).. you can lengthen/shorten the intake and effectively keep the pressure waves/pulses at the correct frequency range for any area in the rev range. Someone correct me if Im wrong but Iirc its to do with the opening/closing of the intake valves matching the harmonic frequency of the intake. |

i also thought that might be it, but those expanded sections arent connected to the air horns of the intake. Those are in a "normal" airbox.
All the trickery is before that, so wouldnt it render useless, since it has to flow again thru a normal intake pipe and airbox? |

found some pics of a replica in this thread. It looks like not much more than an excuse to have a large expanse of carbon fibre in your engine bay
