I voted Alonso, but surely Bottas deserves a mention. I don't believe that in the entire history of Formula 1 a driver caused a 8-9 cars crash (at least 5 of them total loss).

Some of those cars were taken out by Stroll, and I don't think any are a total loss. but thanks to Bottas, we got a great race. |

Was it 8-9? Stroll did a couple of them in what looked like a separate incident. Hello BTW. I was happy to vote for Ocon, got swept up in the emotion of the win. But you’re right on Alonso. Really good. |

Well, not exactly total loss but five of them didn't restart. And I didn't say that he took all of them by himself, I said he caused the pile-up.
PS: Oh yes, Spa 1998 was a good one too... |

Ocon. Drove brilliantly to get his first GP win, under constant pressure from a very persistent Vettel.

Could have gone with either Alpine driver but in the end I went with Alonso. After Latifi was out of the way, he was around thirty seconds behind Ocon but closed to only ten seconds back, while his defensive driving against Hamilton was pure class and won the race for his teammate. A shout-out too for Russell for his selfless acceptance to help out Latifi for the good of the team, although I don’t think he actually did in the end.

Voted for Ocon for obvious reasons, but special mentions to Vettel, Bottas, Stroll, and Sainz, for this:

Alonso was mega. The performance i was waiting and hoping to see from a smart experienced driver.
And so happy for Ocon. I like old man Alonso! But went for Ocon. Kept his head. A well earned first win. |

It's great to see a new race winner. Delighted for Ocon.

The Alpine drivers, it's a tie between the two of them, at least I think so.

I think I have to vote for Ocon, he lucked in and made the most of it. But Alonso was a joy to watch.

Ocon is too obvious. He did very well to defend against Vettel and n it get pressured into a mistake, but he got into the lead on pure luck.
It could have been Hamilton for a great fighting comeback, or even Vettel who acquitted himself very well. But I chose Fred, mainly for that spirited defence against Lewis, though I suppose you could equally praise Lewis for an equally spirited attack. POTR was Bottas of course. |

On reflection I should have voted for Alonso, but hey, it’s not the most incorrect thing I’ve said here. |

Tough call 'twixt Ocon, Hamilton and Ferdy. They all deserve it, but I'll plump for Ocon – a first GP win in tricky conditions with two great champions yapping at his heels. Wonderful to see Fernando back on such form, and Lew's fight back from last was a(nother) masterclass in dealing with prevailing conditions – whatever they may be. A true racing genius...
Other matters arising... Surely, now, Toto has to bid the benighted Bottas farewell – if he hasn't already – and give George his much deserved chance in a race-winning team. Last edited by sparkione; 1 Aug 2021 at 21:54. |

Close call between the two Alpinistas - but Ferdy gets my vote due to the close race battles, particularly with Lewis.

Freddy Allen - defensive driving masterclass.
Honorable mentions to Ocon and Vettel. |

Some great drives out there today.
Hamilton for driving through the field, Ocon and Vettel out front but for me Alonso. That battle with Hamilton, 2 drivers at the top of their game, brilliant show of defensive driving and Hamilton trying to work out the chess game. Thats how its done lads. |

I can't help but be amused by the votes for Lando and Valteri...... Mind you, there is a serial 'offender' there.....

This is extremely tough. Massive kudos to the Williams drivers. So happy to see them collect some points.
I *love* https://racer.com/2021/08/01/vettel-...over-protests/! Those guys should get an extra championship point just for that. Once again my admiration for Sebastian grows. F*ck fascism! Take that Hungary. Also, taking about crooks. What is that Russian gangster's son doing in F1 again? Bottas on the other hand, what the heck was he thinking? Good on you for joining those others in protesting, but still... I have been defending him for being as a really good driver in an impossible situation, but that was so bone headed! But, I guess it gave us an entertaining race so I'm totally torn. Carlos drove really well, Sebastian was cautious at the start and then made the most of it, well done. Same thing for Ocon. He lucked into it, but at this track you can win with that kind of luck. But, for the guys that made me pick up my jaw from the floor... Lewis is absolutely great. I still think he will take home #8, and #9 and possibly even #10. This day was a master class. Fernando, what a drive. Smart from the start to the end, and aggressive at just the right amounts. His fight with Lewis was epic. I will give my point to Lewis for showing us a champion at work, but the one that transcended the limits today was Alonso. |

I picked Bottas for a supremely well executed first lap move to destroy RBR's point scoring ability in the race.
Hat tip to Ocon who must have been loaned Hamilton's horseshoe. (see Adam's signature ) |
