It means his car doesn't do parc ferme so they can work on it all night. I don't like that.

It's very clever but not particularly fair. It means they can put as much fuel as they like in the car too according to the ITV commentary.

That sucks - I love Minardi but they should'nt be allowed to abuse the spirit of rules anymore than others.
How does this benefit them though? |

And will we see it at every race?
Do we take it Verstappen will be ahead of Wilson on the grid because he was quicker on Friday? |

Brilliant move by Minardi. They were most likely going to be at the back of the grid anyway and now they can start the race on wwhichever tyres, however much fuel they like and do whatever they like to the car.

Not very sporting though, I don't agree with that at all.

If it's within the current rules I hope it's changed before the next GP.

Another thing, with rain a possible for tomorrow, if needed they can run a full wet setup.

Why wouldnt they have to go Parc Ferme? My guess is that they were trying to save 1 laps worth of fuel. Without the 107% rule they will be on the grid anyway.

The commentators said that about the parc ferme, I didn't know anything about that one.

To me it's a legitimate tactic. The only way they'll have a real advantage is if it does rain heavily for the race.

I hope not - If Ferrari did something like this (abused a loophole) there would be hell to pay.

Not really a big risk, they would have qualified last anyway.

No, the time from friday does'nt count, everyone without a time will be at the back(wich would be the case with Minardi anyway if they would have set a time, they still have a lot of work to do), and the first driver to NOT set a time(also drivers who crash) is in front of the 2nd who does't, So Justin will start 19th, Jos 20th.
It's a tactical choice, there is a very large change it will rain tomorow, Minardi can see how the weather develops and setup their cars for rain if it does, they can also refuel and they can try to sort out some problems they still had because they did'nt have much testing(gearbox software seems to have bugs) It is a BIG loop hole in the new rules, expect more teams to do so if there is chance of rain in the future...... |

107% rule
According to ITV it DOES still apply!
A post qual interview with Stoddart gave the impression that Friday times count towards 107%, but not the grid. He also gave the impression he'd checked on the legality of their tactic before the qualifying session started. He says that as they've only had one shakedown of each car before this weekend, they had done nowhere near the amount of work on the car that they would have liked. As a result, they're taking advantage of a loophole in the rules, which allows them to work on the car between qual2 and the race as long as they don't set a time in Qual2. Both cars should start fronm the pitlane tomorrow. |
