Romano vs Forbes outcome

A little Birdy tells me that Paul Romano is 50K poorer after the hearing into this incident. No word as to appeal...

$50K is a fair cop. Sissy $5K fines don't deter anyone from doing anything... but definately $50K will make you think twice...

He should have his CAMS licence revoked and banned for life.

i think the fine is a bit steep, especially for a privateer.
OK, if he did it deliberately it was a stupid move, but it still doesnt warrant that fine.
a suspension would've been more suitable

Calais it was PROVEN he did it deliberately, plus he has form for doing similar actions in other classes. I personally think the fine is too SMALL. I saw the incident from Flag point 6 at PI and in my opinion, he should have gone for 100K and a suspension for rest of season.

A suspension for the rest of his life more like it! It doesn't matter whether he is a privateer or reigning champion, while it was at low speed, deliberately ramming another car is a dangerous and pathetic act which not only brings the sport into disrespute, it trivialises all notions of fairness in motorpsort.

Calais I have seen you in the Formula One forums continually debating the sportsmanship of Michael Schumacher's tactics and rightly so. What Paul Romano did was an utter disgrace and you say his penalty was too harsh?

well, considering the puny penalty schui got for jerez, this penalty does still seem harsh, and i'm not condoning what romano did, it was a stupid move on his behalf, but a penalty more directed at the driver {like a suspension} woild have been more suitable than one directed at the team's finances.
maybe a years suspension would have been more appropriate

if anything, the bargs/murphy push and shove brought the sport into disrepute,as it was shown right around the country on all news telecasts

Hrmmm, simply because they are a 'privateer' team doesn't mean that they have deep pockets...

They can't ban him, but still, this is a far steeper penalty than that given out to Ingall for purposely punting Imrie off in 2000...

Had a thought about it. A ban and NO fine would have been no punishment at all. He's already effectively missed a race anyway, by missing the EC cut. The driving standards in V8's are still pretty bad in my opinion. We need to hit a few of em where it really hurts and that's in the wallet.

But is $50K going to put them out of business? It's a pain in the arse, but it would probably only be equal to a damaged engine, or the damage caused in that accident.

No it wont, and they shouldn't be put out of business. They should be made to hurt, though, and 50K is no drop in the ocean to even someone like HRT.

ouch, i remember when he was strapped for cash before any penalties!! remember 1998, his dad was a part of Bridgestone and sponsored the car, solely!

but, well, i didn't see the incident, it surely must have been stupid on his behalf, surely $20k would have been large for him, and maybe a small suspension, maybe even the damage to repair the victims car, then next time he will think about how hard to push the right pedal!!!

hey, that would be a good punishment!!

Why can't they ban him? They can revoke his CAMS licence just as AVESCO can revoke his franchise to race

Come now Racey, you know they wont do that. AVESCOn stewards dont have that power anyway. And can you really see TC pulling a franchise?

I did see it Twig, and I still think 50K is too light. I'd have got him for 100K, costs to repair Forbes' car and rest of season suspension. AVESCO have to be seen to be acting tough on bad driving, and in their opinion 50K is a good whack. I dont agree.

Doesn't matter who the driver is, you cant be charging smaller drivers and teams lesser bucks than the big guys.

To answer 2 quesitons - yes and yes - they are NOT AVESCO Stewards - they are CAMS stewards and they DO have the power, under the NCR's to pull a licence.

TC wouldn't pull a franchise? Wy not - he's made a laughing stock of it already - one more trick wouln't upset things anymore...

50 K is the wrong kind of penalty for a privateer team like Ramano's. With all the things that have happened before in the V8's that drivers have got away with, this was the consistent inconsistency that Barry Sheene likes to talk about all day long. Just because he hasn't got the like Ingall shouldn't be a factor in handing down punishments.

If you were strapped for cash, you wouldnt get involved in V8s...

Perhaps we could hire a mug to steal his license, then with slow CAMS processing, he shouldn't get replacement documentation for another 15 months...

There's NO prescription to suspend a license in the AVESCO regs, Racey.

As for the punishment, 50K is too light, I STILL say, even though I now hear that it's only 20K and 150 points. And if it is only 20K that is an ABSOLUTE joke.

Actually, what's wrong with fineing(sp??) privateer/budget teams less than the big/money flush larger Works teams? The pain should be relative to their budgets? You can argue that fineing them "relative to their budget" is just as fair? Just curious? What do other fans think?
