Well it seems the Peugeot team has found some pace to lead FP1 and put the sister car in 4th.

Times fall by 2 seconds from FP1 to FP2, but this time it was BMW leading the way followed by 5 Porsche and both Ferrari and Toyotas. Peugeot was at the bottom and 3 seconds slower than they were in FP1

That car still seems to be hard to tame. Speaking of Bahrain, in 2022 they were looking quite good but in 2023 they were nowhere despite better BOP & updates on the car. Magic.

I have only skimmed the lap charts. It appears that it will be a close weekend. No obvious outliers in the race sims. The strong cars are lapping in the 1.52-1.53 range.

Was just reading the Thurs notebook from DSC and they said lap times last year on opening day were in the 1:46 range so even faster than today but weather may have played a part.

Be fair to Seb. He's excellent when not in annihilation mode (and I'm no big fan of his).


As an aside, I see the #7 is using De Vries more and more for Qually. Is it just because he's the smallest/lightest (aside from being a quick pair of hands) or is the team winding back Kamui to dedicate his time exclusively as Team Principle to make way for another driver?

De Vries is probably quicker at this stage of their careers. His P2 lap in Qatar at the season opener was the best lap of the entire weekend considering how slow Toyota was in the race.
