Brazil: second thoughter track?
It seems Interlagos is particularly hard to race in. In the las 4 seasons (1999-2002) Brazil appears as the second worst in finishers amount.
The record for Interlagos is: 1999 (9), 2000 (10), 2001 (11) well below general average (about 13). I wonder if it is due to bumpy tarmac (particularly in the high speed section), hot weather or maybe a tiring slow section. That last remark come to me because the most toughter tracks in the last years is Montecarlo: 9, 9 and 10 finishers, and it is tiresome and I assume it's bumpy as well. BTW, Hungaroring, second slowest track and really hot (in and out the track, LOL), is not particularly hard to finish %-0 I discount Melbourne as particularly hard because the 8 finishers this years were mainly due to the first lap pile up. There was 10(?) cars broken and at current rate of finishing (around 60% per race) I suppose approx 6 of them could finish the race in normal circumstances, raising number of finishers to 14. I wonder what teams/drivers is it going to favor. More reliable cars? More fitted drivers? What engines are going to blow up in a firework? Is the "tank"-like Jaguar R3 going to have another (brief) moment of glory? (c: PS: OT, how can I put smileys INTO messages? |

Brazil is a tough track for several reasons... On track, it has a very bad surfacing which doesnt seem able to be cured. Its weather can be quite hard on the cars too, and thus, the bumps and heat can be quite punishing on the drivers and cars as well. Setup is quite a compromise due to the long straights coupled with a very tight infield. the bumps further add to the problems with a softer spring compromising ride hide, etc...
However, it's a little hard to compare the finishing rate to grade its toughness. As one thing that can be noted is that cars tend to be more reliable as the season progresses. But no doubt...Brazil GP is a challenge. |

Add the fact that is an anti-clockwise track.
