Willhire 24 hours 1981/82/83

Can anyone help me with copies of the results from the Willhire 24hours in 1981, 1982 and 1983. A great event but as a rallydriver they always gave me the midnight to 3.00am stint. Still the cars went quicker in the dark 'cause the air was colder!

Can anybody remind what year it was that there was a team of ladies taking part ,in a Honda IIRC? Made a change and gave the wife and sisters in law someone to cheer for!

Well maybe this happened on more than one occassion. The one I remember was between 1984 and 1990 an all women driver line up in a Lancia beta saloon the whole thing being run , managed and trained by Ian Taylor Racing. I do feel fairly confident it was a Lancia as I was there and remember thinking they started with a handicap because the car was uncompetitive to start with, but I guess they got the car from commercial/advertising reasons.

Now maybe something similar happened on another 24 hr race there with a Honda ?? Are you thinking of Carolyn Grant-Sale who did the race on more than one occassion. Susan Tucker-Peake may have done the race at some time too. We really need a full entry list over a period of years to sort it out.I think you are definitely right about the Charity aspect.

I am sure that you will find the 1982 result was changed on appeal and the Morgan Plus 8 was disqualified as not being a standard production car.

It was indeed a Honda Civic. Can't remember one of the ladies names in the three driver team, but one was certainly Barbera Cowell and the other was Kirsten Kolby.

Sorry RTH, but I marshalled at every Willhire 24 hour (one was 25 hours too) and can never remember a Lancia Beta saloon being entered, let alone one being driven by a team of ladies.
The closest car to a Beta saloon in looks that I can think of would be the liftback Toyota Celica that the Brundle family shared.

Ok, right not a Beta, I think it was in fact a Lancia Delta not an integrale but a fairly cooking 4 door . Now does that ring any bells with an Ian Taylor connection ?

Kirsten Kolby and her brother Kristen were active drivers about '94/95 this is about 8-10 years later than the entry I am thinking of.

I'm looking for any and all info regarding the TR7 entry of Dick Adams and Watton Tool Hire. The car competed in 1980, 81, 82 and 83 I think. I recently aquired this car pretty much "as raced" except with a respray back to the red/white/blue works colours that it was originally in when Dick bought it from Safety Devices. The cabin, engine bay and boot are still in sponsor's maroon colourscheme and the long range 2nd tank still resides in the boot. Any help filling in the gaps (placings etc) would be appreciated.

A quick reply about the 1982 Snetterton 24 hr race.It was I believe open to production Saloon and Sports cars for the first time. The V8 Morgan finished 1st
overall but was found to be outside the regulations for its class, and therfore
disqualified. To this effect the Opel Commodore was placed 1st overall making it
three wins in a row for the team.It would be nice to see this rectified in all the
reports.
