1992 Toca shootout?

Can anybody let me know of the Entry list and result please.

I've seen the start of the race on 'Millenium Havoc', and there were not many cars.

Also is it avalible on video?

I know John Cleland won the race and Kieth Odor vaulted the fence!

But thats it!

I thought Odor had his accident in '93, not '92?

Btw, when did Mansell have his biggie in the TOCA Shootout (that famous one at Donington)?

Why was there such a small grid for the Toca shoot-out, when 30 cars per race had been the norm during the season?

I don't think it had been announced until quite late in te season, so a lot of the independents probably hadn't got the budget to take in the extra race.

There were also a lot of changes in the factory team- BMW originally announced they were pulling out at the end of 92, so neither Prodrive or VLR were in.(The 1993 Schnitzer entry hadn't been announced at that point). 1992 champ Tim Harvey had left BMW to sign for to the new Renault team- he drove the Escort Cosworth pace car, and is interviewed on the TV coverage visibly wearing Renault overalls under his jacket)

Additionally, Andy Rouse had lost the Toyota works deal- the car he raced in the Shoot-Out wasn't one of the 1992 works cars, but the 1991 car that had been used by Thorkild Thyrring early in the season, and it ran with just ICS sponsorship, with no sign of Securicor

Cleland had it a bit easy in 92 then. His only real competitors it seems were Rouse and Odor but it seems they were no match. Ive seen the Odor crash on "Jermy Clarksons, Motor Mayhem".

There was a Toca shootout in 93, it was the Mansell race at Donnington

1.D LESLIE ECURIE ECCOSE VAUXHALL
2.P RADISICH FORD MONDEO
3.S SOPER SCHNITZER BMW
4.R GRAVETT? PEUGEOT 405
5.D COYNE? PEUGEOT 405
6.T NEEDELL ECCURIE ECCOSSE VAUXHALL

Memmory a bit sketchy. Works Vauxhalls didnt take part. Cleland commentated for the BBC.

He drove one in the Japanese Touring Car Championship in 1994 and 95. Later got backing from Opel Japan and renamed it the Opel Vectra.

MH fan you're right. I just didn't expect Reid to drive in the BTCC back then. I'm sure he was really exciting to watch when overtaking in those cars was much easier.

It was held at the same meeting as the Touring Car World Cup- I think the Shoot-Out date had been already set when the World Cup race at Donington was announced, so the WC became the headliner for the meeting with the Shoot-Out ending up as one of the support races.

Funnily enough, he hadn't driven in the BTCC as such- as MH Fan said, he was driving the HKS team's Cavalier/Vectra GT in the Japanese series, but was nominated by the RACMSA for the British team in the World Cup (entry was by nomination from the national motorsport governing body plus a few additional entries nominated by manufacturer teams- which allowed a few BTCC regulars in who weren't otherwise nominated...).

He drove a factory Cavalier alongside John Cleland (Cleland's team-mate Jeff Allam missing out on a World Cup drive for some reason)- think it was a new car built for the occasion. Vauxhall then ran 3 cars in the TOCA Shoot-Out (held after the WC race)- Cleland, Allam & Reid

His official BTCC debut didn't come unitl he drove for Nissan in 97

That World Cup entry was incredible- 40 touring cars at Donington, and some of the best drivers in the business....

Wasn't the TOCA Shootout originally the Tourist Trophey, it just changed it's name for those couple of years, and in 1996 it reverted to the TT name, and hasn't been held since 1997. Why wasn't it held in 1995, & what about entries & results from '96 & '97, i believe international entries were in those fields.

The TT was originally the Silverstone ETCC round until the ETCC was canned at the end of 1988 (in fact, the actual Tourist Trophy goes back to about 1907, and has been raced for variously at Dundrod, Donington, Goodwood and Oulton amongst others, by both sportscars and tourers over the years). The Shoot-Out began in 1992, and the TT was awarded for the Touring Car World Cup at Donington in 1994 (so we had both a TT and a Shoot-Out that year- at the same meeting)

I can't remember why neither happened in 95- the World Cup was held- at Dijon in France, so the Tourist Trophy didn't go with that title.

A non-championship TT was held at Donington in both 1996 (80-lap enduro- though no driver changes) and 1997 (run as 2 heats, with the grid for one being lined up in reverse order of qualifying times- qualifying was great fun- Menu and Leslie desperately trying to be slowest and so get on pole....)

I've got the programmes somewhere, so I'll dig out the entry lists- there certainly were international entries, particularly in 97- a couple of Swedish Vectras, 2 Abt Audis from the German STW Cup, and Yvan Muller in a (non-quattro) Audi A4, amongst others....

Andy is right. I have that video. Refer to the thread about the 1993 toca shootout for my comments

KA- In 1995 I think Frank Biela won the World Cup. In one of my old Autosport review books it shows some pictures from it.
