Ford Escort Race, Brazilian GP 1984
Peter Windsor's personal blog mentions a support race for the 1984 Brazilian GP; which essentially was a Pro-Am race that seems to have been otherwise largely unreported. I’ve established that it was a 5-lap event where F1 drivers were paired with journalists in Ford Escort XR3s, possibly all in JPS livery. The journalists took the start; after 2 laps there was a compulsory pit-stop and a driver change when the GP stars took over. Windsor shared with Niki Lauda, the pair finishing fourth after being t-boned early on by Winklehock's German scribe co-driver; apparently Lauda vowed never to compete again in such an event.
Period publications and official results make no mention of this race; can anyone shed some light on what happened, or even better provide any photographs (in particular I am seeking images of the cars handled by Lauda and Patrese). Really appreciate any input here! |

Interesting... We'll see if I could find anything in the local press.
