Porsche - New Era about to begin ?
With Weideking gone, are we looking at a new era with Porsche about to return to a golden era. Will the P1 now be ramped up. It has got to be a more positive outlook for any future developments at Porsche motorsport. If so, would the Porsche and Audi divisions be able to both run side by side in competition? Interesting times ahead.

well unless Porsche are pulling money out of a large rear facing body cavity, then I would not hold my breath. Right now, there are debts to be paid and money to be found. VW and the shareholders will ease into this deal rather than just go in Blitzgrieg style. What ever Weissach are working on in the secret elf shop, will no doubt continue. At the end of the day, all companies want to make a profit. IF Porsche, under new ownership, DO in fact produce the much wished for super P1 car, then it will run against anything and everything, even if it is a cousin (Audi) from the same stable. Both marque's have their own demographics, and even with some crossover here and there, it's still a win win for VW AG. Unlike last October, when das boot was on the other foot, and certain behind the scenes events at board level, affected the entire Audi race programme. it will be as they say, veeerrrry inteeerrrresting!

I thought I saw the sacrilege of a Porsche sedan already? The Q7 Audi is based on a Cayenne/Tourag as it is. Criminy, there is soooooo much incest in the car business !!!!

I think Porsche would come back in P1 with Penske Racing. It's long time voices about Roger involvements have been taken by the strong wind!
Penske was interested to Audi R15 when Porsche P1 program was being aborted. But now... things are going to change! |

I think the most that will happen in the next year or so will be a few more outings for the R15 - But I would hope that long term as recovery kicks in and debts are paid off then things may improve
The VAG groups brands could almost single handedly make sportscar racing a great place to be again using a few brands in various classess for less than the cost one season in F1 with one brand! |

Chances for a P1 entry by the factory have only increased now Wiedeking has left. It was he who put the '99 prototype to sleep and him also who said that under his supervision,Porsche would only race cars that would make a profit by selling them to customers.
Protoype's only cost money.(at least in the first few years) |

We don't have to forget Piech is the man designed 908, 909 and 917...
I think he's a racer inside, and so he will show us a great return of the Porsche in Le Mans, in 2011. I'm pretty sure about this! |

I think we'll se a Porsche P1 in time for 2011, and a substantially reworked RS Spyder to take advantage of the 2011 P2 rules, all they need to do is keep the chassis and rework the engine bay to accomodate the engine from the GT2 car.

Can't wait? Like you'll die if you have to? Be sure to make the invite cards for your funeral then...no way this year, unlikely in 2010, beyond that, well, that's a long way off isn't it?!

Having Audi and Porsche race against each other factory style doesn't make any more sense now than it did before.

Porsche have always supported their "heritage" models, too, so its straightforward to get parts for older cars to keep them running & even racing. Audi talks about its heritage but does absolutely nothing to support its Ur quattro line & deletes spares hand over fist. If it insists in the same attitude at Porsche then a lot of historic racers are going to be disappointed.

Audi are pushing the TDI technology in P1 as their philosophy, Porsche could make a P1 car with a different philosophy (hybrid? a cost-efffective customer car a la 956?)

I remember there was rumour on the internet said the Porsche is going to enter FIA GT 2011 with a new GT1 car, which is based on successor to the Carrera GT. This month's Motor magazine also mentioned this.
I hope its truth, i'm a big fan of 911 gt1... |
