Schumacher not worth 16m $$
In my view Ralf Shuntmaker is not worth $16.000.000 to any team. I say this because he has had an incident in almost every Grand Prix Such as San Marino, Barhain,Monaco e.t.c. and in every instance he blames sombody else. I feel he will be in f1 next year but not with Williams B.M.W. and i must say i'm not suprised i hear a rumor about Toyota F1 being a possibility but $16m will he get it from anyone????
Your Thoughts???? |

A lot depends on his sponsors and I believe he has plenty, for now. Driving is one thing and marketing another and he's got a phenomenal manager. I think he can still get >10 million for 2005 either from williams or toyota. But there's something going on and frankly I am quite surprised that nothing has been decided as yet. Is MS planning to take an year off? That can throw things into disarray and RS can move into Ferrari as well.

I can see why a poor team would pay $16M for him. He's done poorly this year, but if a bottom team wants a top driver they have to give them some incentive to drive around at the back while they try to make the car better.

My info is Ralf, despite denials all round, has signed with Toyota but for nowhere near the amount mentioned(maybe in Rubals ).
freud your mention of Ferrari is interesting but MS will be there next year. The question is will Rubans? Two questions that remain are who will partner Ralf? Who will compete on a leval playing feild with Michael? The Grumpy1 Last edited by grumpy1; 7 Jun 2004 at 01:07. |

Willi is as stupid as they come His only strategy for a less-than-godlike driver is to try to sell him as one anyway, resorting to any rediculous means he can possibly think up. Basically he is going to succeed in that strategy(ROTFL yeah right)or have to crawl on his knees and beg a good team to take ralf at a bargain basement price. Yeah...brilliant manager Somewhere along the line willi has got the idea that MS's success is somehow due to him |

If he has/does sign for Toyota, I agree with others that it will be for nothing like the amount we have seen mentioned in the press. They may have a massive cheque book, but Toyota know they don't need to pay over the odd's for Ralf, his only option is a lower retainer at Williams, if a seat is still available for him in 2005.
Ralf has always been an inconsistent performer and this season has hardly been a good advert for him. If Toyota were canny they would offer him a low retainer and hefty performance bonus, to see if they can extract some more consistency from him. On the management front, I think WW has been a bit unwise to tout Ralf around the paddock as a 'hot property' which few people see him as. The Renault 'nonsense', for example made both him and Ralf look silly and desperate to try and create a false demand for Ralf. They seem to have missed the crucial point that you make yourself in demand, and subsequently a 'hot property', by on track performances - not paddock talk. |

I think as rich as the teams are, they are not here to throw money away, and the people who make the decisions don't get their status within the team by making stupid decisions over the years.
I doubt Ralf's really paid that much, but if he does than good for him, he managed to get a good deal. |

I think Ralf is ok . and will improve ten fold in a better working relationship .
Mark and Ralf + gascoyne at Toyota sounds like a WCC to me |

Considering the past twelve months, Ralf should consider himself lucky to be getting $5 million. He may or may not have signed for Toyota, but I seriously doubt he'll be getting anything near the $16 million he was hoping for.
IMO Williams will be more than glad to see the back of him. (Particularly given the repair bill this year!) |

Toyota looks like being Ralf's only option for next year. They hold the cards, not him.
Offer him a one-million take it or leave it deal. That'll see if he wants success or just BIG money. |

I think that boy will be out of a drive very quickly if he doesn't pull his finger out.
I don't think Toyota have signed him yet at all........and I bet they are revising the shortlist. He's got to perform in every race this season from now to stand any chance IMO. |
