DIX MILLE TOURS DU CASTELLET Oct 2nd - 4th
Translated, it's the next Peter Auto meeting at Paul Ricard, although IMHO the original circuit name is much classier!
Frantic work going on as we speak to get certain cars rebuilt after Spa 6hrs, maybe not so frantic for CER and some other categories not out last weekend. So, any tenthers as well as me going? Being Bernie's place, I can confirm from last visit that the catering is top notch, flower borders immaculate, and weather at beginning of October usually good. Come to think of it, last time it was scorchio all weekend! |

I thought (Le) Castellet WAS the original circuit name.
Am I wrong? |

So, arrived mid Thursday morning, diesel intact , and after an hour's patient wait was slotted into a spot behind the boxes. The PA people as usual going out of their way to make sure all accommodated to everyone's mutual satisfaction. Unloaded before rest of team arrived- not unusual- and while they sorted out scrutineering it gave me time to wash the salt off the truck, a result of being last on the ferry Tuesday and parked out in the open! All the above accomplshed in the dry, although mostly overcast. However....
First thing yesterday morning got up to find light rain. This increased gradually until the 60's Endurance free practice at 0900 was thoroughly wet (and 12 C). So much for being in the South of France. Of course soon as car was back in tent it stopped again. The rest of the day continued on same theme, until after qualifying and early evening when the sun broke through. The SLR has its work cut out this weekend, the might of the 911 army massed to take points off the plucky Brit, which is leading the class going into this last round.... The team are also on the back foot after car's new engine went wrong at Spa, and the old unit had to be substituted for this weekend. 2hr race last thing today, and fingers very crossed...... BTW over 80 cars in the 60's Endurance! Meanwhile the B8 went well in free practice, also in the wet, and has 2 qualifying sessions today. The 2 CER grids are as awesome as ever, and this time include a 917 Spyder that I haven't seen before. According to programme, Jurgen Barth driving, but not able to confirm that.... The Touring Car entry includes all the usual Escorts, Capris, BMWs and Rovers, plus the odd Alfa and American iron. Dry so far this morning, doubt if that will be the case all day.... |

Wall-to-wall blue sky and a pleasant sunny 19 degrees as I drove past Attleborough on Friday...

60s Endurance race abandoned due to adverse conditions! After 27 minutes of 2hrs, half under SC, race was red flagged. Then after a wait, abandoned. Thunder and lightning, torrential rain and then fog as temperature suddenly rose 3 degrees....... After all that work! Beer o-clock, I reckon. |

Well, that was different!
Having got our 356 up to 9th overall in a v wet free practice (no one was more surprised than we were!!!) , we spent most of Saturday race day wishing for rain, and boy did we get it!! A storm of biblical proportions descended on us at the start of the race, and that together with minimal visibility meant the organisers had no real choice than to red flag it after having completed 5 laps most of which were behind the safety car. Such a shame for all concerned. Let's hope the weather is better for the next outing in Portimao! |

We were feeling fairly hard done by after all the travel and preparation, but when heard next morning that 16 died during the storm in S of F, it put it into perspective.
Sunday was warm and sun all through until late day, B8 had good race to P16, so something to cheer us up! |

Weather for Stubble racing in deepest Norfolk was superb on Saturday.
Held next door to Attleborough. My mates in Antibes ,in Biot lost their homes on Saturday night. It's the people who run the Airport taxi from Nice and lived in Biot for many years.Originally from Leeds. |

One of our mob had lunch with PP yesterday, and they were naturally upset about having to abandon the race. Apparently when the Quattro Audi SC was having difficulty staying on track, the decision was easy. 'Never known track conditions at Ricard so bad' one of the staff said! And thanks- I've been hearing about how lovely the weather is back home ever since I left! Let's hope Snett is as mellow this coming weekend.... |

it was bad weather for two days, but the positive side of it all is the different pictures you can take in the rain. Check here.

Nice pics as usual, thanks, Pieter!
Especially like the CER1 pic featuring my best side- as I was strapping Bill W into John Emberson's B8 #15 during their driver change. Any chance of a copy? |

At times the weather was so bad, Mike had to resort to perfecting his "I'm a little teapot" dance routine!!!!
