This is great news, ive said it before and I'll say it again the FIA ETCC is the best touring car championship in the world, now with there being Skoda in the championship as well as BMW, SEAT and Alfa Romeo this just goes to back up my thoughts even more! <grins>

Really?

“The victories of the WRC cars should be a good basis from which to start for this new programme,” said Zenkl. “ We have great expectations for this participation in the FIA ETCC and we hope to create some surprises, opening a new, interesting chapter in the 100-year old tradition of *koda motorsport.” The team has planned an intensive testing programme in order to be ready for the first meeting of the season, at Barcelona on April 6th.

From the ETCC press release is sound like they are works assisted rather than a proper works team. Sound a bit like Volvo/Prodrive last year. Either way great to have another make involved.

The *koda Autospektrum Racing Team will join the 2003 FIA European Touring Car Championship, running two *koda Superb cars adapted to the FIA Super 2000 technical specifications. The cars were built in close cooperation with the *koda Motorsport factory and will be driven by two young, talented Czech drivers: 22-year old Petr Koláø and 28-year old Ondøej Navrátil. They emerged as the best competitors in recent seasons of the *koda Octavia Cup. The team, based in the Czech Republic and directed by Otakar Zenkl, has been very successful in the *koda Octavia Cup, and has also prepared and run *koda Octavia WRC cars in the European and the Czech Rally Championships.

They kept that one quiet! Never heard a whisper about them entering the ETCC.

The drivers will have to prove themselves to me though, never heard of them before.

Typical of me to be jobes comforter! But only goes to show how car makers are attracted to the ETCC over the BTCC, as we have debated many times before!!!!

Isn't the Superb a bit big for an ETCC racer.

Wow, on a Passat platform? That sounds like quite a big car compared to everyone else? OTOH, that's about the same size as the Alfa 156??

Maybe slightly larger. Probably around the same sort of size as the Volvo S60.

Interesting...the front lights of the Superb remind me of the Audi TT for some reason.

Ok, I was wrong because of the Octavia they were going to use as a touring car. The Superb is the main touring car for Skoda Motorsport.

Is the Superb going to be a rear wheel drive car or the front wheel drive like Volvo and Alfa Romeo??
