Legends Cars

Hey guys.

sorry if this is a little off topic, may be better suited to some kit car forum but i know some of you are quite knowledgable!. i bought a legend about 8 weeks ago which im currently drag racing....and doing pretty well, a best of 13.3/101mph on the standard bf goodrich treaded tyres, the hoosiers have now been fitted so should go better next time. however among all the crazy ideas id like to replace the standard fj1200 egine with an r1/hayabusa/gsxr1000. at the moment the fj1200 is prop drivenn to a celica axle which is locked. i was looking at having the car chain driven rather than prop driven, which should get rid of any problems of exploding diffs, breaking half shafts, and also should make it easier to setup by using different sprockets/tyre sizes. anyway to my question. does anyone know of any companies out there that manufacture halfshafts etc that could be used on a legend, ie like on a kit car/ karting/ Formula student. if anyone has any ideas id appreciate your help

cheers

adam

You're drag racing a Legend? A car that was built for corners... Oh well, never mind, but I'd advise against using a chain, which would be much more fragile (and prone to stretching, slipping) than a prop shaft.

LOL yes drag racing a legend....its an absolute hoot...seriously good fun. im also looking at hill climbing the car at some point. im pretty chuffed with the car so far. its on the standard bf goodrich tyres and is already running the same times as a DB9, Viper and lamborghini gallardo.....just funny seeing their faces when i beat them!

as for the chain drive, yes i see your point about stretching chains, however the ones used in drag racing are quite alot stronger than on normal circuits, bearing in mind some bikes have over 1000hp and there are hayabusas and R1s out there with over 400hp

I would argue that a car with a locked diff is not designed to go round corners! (Not on Tarmac anyway)

The last time I saw them race was at Brands last year and a lot of them seemed to like the gravel trap on the outside of Paddock Hill Bend

You have to slide them, then they love corners!

We ran with welded up diffs for years on shale and tarmac. You soon get used to it, and you don't need a handbrake to park it, just put it on full lock !

Lol, not so bad with rear wheel drive, but bloody try it with front wheel drive, damn near killed myself even on shale!

I think some of the autograss guys would be able to help you mate, especially the Zcars guys who are always developing new and interesting ways of using bike engines.

Interesting idea though, and anything has to be better than oval lagends that I am forced to watch occasionally! they are awful even though i prefer short oval stuff to anything else!
