OT-Hornish fastest in Busch test
Hornish set the fastest time of day three of the Busch series preseason test at Daytona.
http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/head...ing/index.html If he continues like this will he be in NASCAR full-time in '08 and who would replace him? |

Hornish is good, real good- maybe one of the greatest talents to not be pushed ot the front. His win at Indy is no fluke or chance- he is spectacular.
of course he is fast in busch or what ever it will be called soon. Give him good stuff and he will shine. Hornish is Wicked Fast |

I remember 2003 when Panther finally got the good engine, Sam was no longer crashing, driving too hard and off the pace, I think it was Michigan when he nearly won and got beaten to the line by Barron just, that was the change of things when he didn't stop winning and was the fastest driver in the second part of the season.
Sam is one of the best oval racers and many have compared to Rick Mears, but he has to be much better like Rick on the road courses to be considered a complete driver IMHO. As for NASCAR which is where he will probably end up in two years ish, it will take a bit of practice as is the case with most people, but his first Busch race at Phoenix last year was shocking, he slide wide all the time and hit the wall, he looked as though he'd never raced on an oval before, and Montoya was at the front. |

I suspect that's why he's made moves towards Nascar, he knows he's an average road course driver and one of the top ovalers in the world.

It's not a straightforward transition though, as he is finding.

I expect that Sam will do the Cup series in a couple of years time full time and then just do the Indy 500 each year.

NASCAR is where the money, fame and job stability is these days, it's no surprise that so many open-wheel guys are looking towards it. A few good laps in testing doesn't really prove anything, but this guy must have the talent to succeed. Time and again he's proved himself in the IRL, even as the field got stronger.

In all honesty though, doing times in a Nascar test, especially at Daytona is something almost any decent driver could do.
The difficulty of Nascar lies in the racing, again, especially at a Daytona track. |

Well qualifying at Daytona might be, it's very much down to your setup.
At subsequent events he'll be able to make a little more of a difference in qualifying. |
