I don't think they are buried as yet as the smell still seems to be wafting around our forum.

come on, be positive, nothing wrong with more motorsport.
Apparently the first round has been moved to Queensland raceway, as for competitiors, i wouldn't have a clue. |

It's more of an annoyance than anything else- STs are now eligible to run in Sports Sedans, and the number in the National Commodore Cup haven't been anything to write home about...The 1999-00 season should have been their last.

Are they allowing sequential boxes in Sports Sedans ? They were debating the issue for sometime I didn't know they'd ok'd it.
Would an aging ST be competitive in a field of Sports Sedans ? I've seen Sports Sedans racing more than a few times and really enjoy them but I'm not familiar with their lap times. Those Sports Sedans are pretty "hot" aren't they ? |

Yeah, they are pretty hot- the best of the best (ie Kerry Baily) lapped QR 4sec faster than any V8 At QR last week.
Sequentials are not allowed as such, but Super Tourers may be granted dispensation for next season. When someone wakes up to themselves, and pull the pin on STs, there would be no class for them to run in. Of course they can change to H-patterns, gut them, fit a 6lt Chev and race them as outright Sports Sedans. |

The wakefield Park meeting scheduled for November is still going ahead at this stage and the February 17 2002 meeting has also been confirmed by wakefield Park staff.

At least, with the number of meeetings held there recently, we haven't seen them renamed to the Oran Park Sheep or Oran Park Cattle

After the 99 season Volvo and Audi pulled out and they lost Bathurst, that is where the problem lies. After the 97 race, they had 20+ fields at Lakeside and Amaroo, and there were good crowds, same as in 1998, fields of at least 18, even though BMW had pulled out, and the crowds were still healthy. The uncertainty of the 99 season didn't help, no one knew how many overseas teams were going to come with no travel fund, and the CAMS/ Bathurst Tourer debate created uncertainty, that scared off teams (like Jamie Wall) and sponsers and p****d off manufacturers.

Also, looking back through an old AA, i read the report of the 1988 Welington 500, where it reported there was a 'meagre' field of 27 cars, some classes would love to have 27 cars nowadays, and it would be considered a healthy field.

According to motorsport news, no race at Lakeside, nor at Qld Raceway. TOCA series will now start at Oran Park on October 14.

Yep Toca news Round one will be at Oran Park on October 14. Should be a nice way to start the season. I belive they need to incorperate pit stops back in to there races this year, they got the 7 standard 60 km races and 500km race. Does anybody now where the endurance race is at?

And just to continue this thread - with AA's announcement in todays issue that the ST's and FT's will now be joining the Power Tour - Oran Park appears to be cancelled (although not stated outright) with the first ST round now being held at Winton on Oct 20/21.
Then add to this the announcement tonight that the Seven Network and TOCA have terminated the agreement between them to televise the ST series.... |
