Silverstone Rookie

Ok then....I did it. Attended the training day at Silverstone (blasted my mate in the face with a powder extinguisher, oops), completed my membership, ordered my overalls (hope the damn things fit) and just received my MSA card......

Excited to say the least. Absolutely kakking ones pants tbh.
So guys please be kind and looking forward to meeting you all - Roll on March!!!

Excellent!

Try a little of various different types of meeting (historics/sportscars/modern clubbies) to work out what you like. Hope to see you there at some point.

Add World Endurance Championship, The Classic, British F3/GT & Birkett Relay to that list and you'll have all bases covered.
See you on the bank sometime!

Angus, this is my second year. Last year I tried lots of events, and not just track racing. Tried hillm climbs, rally and even sporting trials in grass fields. Enjoy the year and have an open mind to try some diverse events. I managed over 30 days in the end. You will always meet nice people. I am even thinking of trying a couple of Bike events this year.

Think we've all taken a tumble at some point. The trick is not to do it either on live tv or in front of a packed grandstand!!

Or in front of another marshal... we may be unable to recall car numbers from one second to the next but we are very, very good at recalling other people's misfortune. Doubly so if pain is involved!

I stand guilty as charged, m'lud - both for remembering some spectacular prangs by other marshals, and for falling down a hole I had only 5 minutes earlier warned people not to fall down

After 20 odd years playing this game I still managed to fall over in front of the Village grandstand at the WSR meeting last year!

When you do (and you will) and your fellow marshals and spectators laugh , just rememeber to take it with good grace as you will get to take "revenge" one day! Stand up, smile and take a bow (after dealing with the incident that you were rushing to in the first place of course).

Welcome both to the Marshal Family - I've been living here for a few years now. Yes there are some grumpy Uncles (and Aunts too), but we are generally a happy bunch and will make you feel right at home no matter which circut we meet you at.

Hi Angus

Yes - it is the best fun ever......both my wife and I absolutely love it.

Honestly nothing to be worrying about at all! The only concern is to have fun and stay safe - the more experienced guys on post will help you with both.

Yes we have all fallen flat on our asses at some point - mine came at WHT in 2011 jumping off a tyre wall

Look forward to seeing you, and your "extinguishent" dusted mate, when the new season starts.

Trainee Marshal

I have pictures of some trainees on my web site, are you amongst them Andrea?
If so identify yourself, so we know who to look out for.

Happy marshalling, and always be nice to the Media, we deserve it, as any experienced marshal will confirm ........................... i expect!

I remember an occasion at Oulton Park when I had to give up chasing the car pulling off and leave it to the next post up. His momentum was faster than my legs!

Not quite falling over, but still embarrassing!

Please keep a list of all "moments you'd rather forget" for publication in 10 years or so - any "old hand" will nod in agreement that they also did the same!

BTW: You mention 24hrs on your "to do" list. Good Man. Still hope PieLady will be back!

Oh yeah, been there done that, just go to the Marshals Tangle Dash thread and read my post on a Superbike weekend, we all do it, some do it better than others I'm afraid.

Unfortunately for Tony, I was on his post... I didn't laugh - much!
But the worst has to be push starting a formula ford; as it disappears before your eyes you seem to fall flat on your face - and all of this in front of a grid of 18 FF drivers and their team members in the middle of the assembly area - brilliant, just brilliant!!

Was also my first weekend (paired with Janeybobs and Rob on post) and although we didn't have many questions, there is no time limit and if you do think of one (or a hundred), either ask on here, or ask at your next meet! Hope you enjoy yourself as much as we did!

Thanks for the messages, but unfortunately I have been let down big style by my friend...........I do not drive and only have bike licence, but not rode since a serious accident.........

We were doing the marshaling together and agreed on the races etc and she was going to drive...................

I have all of a sudden received notification that she does not want to do this anymore and so I have been left high and dry - huge expenditure, overalls I will not be able to use etc.............etc..............

So will not be seeing any of you I'm afraid

Come on people, surely someone must know *someone* who lives in or near Tamworth who'll be going to Silverstone this weekend.

Andrea, have you thought of giving Val a call to see if she can get you some contact details for someone local(ish)?
