TRC Silverstone Stowe 24th Sept
Providing that parts (new roller rockers) arrive from Tennessee, I should be there with all gremlins massacred, and running on all 8 pots, with brakes that only work when my foot is on the pedal, oil (yes Dave?) that stays in the engine/oil tank, and a gearbox that decides to stay in 2nd gear when it's supposed to during down-shifts.
Isn't motorsport fun stress free entertainment? So who else is venturing to the vast open spaces of the Stowe circuit? Rob. |

I'm entered - Car more or less back to normal after Snetterton Reliant Impersonations - now just needs front geometry checked , and gearbox oil topped up ( had to change a driveshaft ).
O/s wing is rubbish, but i'll live with that until the end of the season. Stowe not really good for a heavy underpowered grp N car, but I'll be there ! getting withdrawl symptoms through missing Lydden ! |

Well, three jobs turned into four, and after a short spell in the workshop, I now have only two jobs left to do - one is waiting for part from sunny Knoxville, the other is a case of blocking the engine breathers (yes, blocking), and relying on the oil tank breather as per NASCAR style.
Gearbox now seems to fully select 2nd, and rear brake master cylinder replaced. Alan, what size alloys are you using? my bruv has some new Astra 15" alloys "in stock" I'm not parting with my ex-works Gp.A Astra Revolution alloys! They stay on my Nova (and my Bruv's!). You wouldn't break those!! |

Do the races at this meeting get split classes like Lydden?

What are you worried about 2nd gear for at Stowe Racing59 you will never get out of 1st Man that place is truely Mickey Mouse for a car like yours or anyone elses. Only good thing bout is the name. I put a real beefy gear stick on the yellow car and found that definitely helps big time with Muncie, they are a bit of a brute of a box and have to be told who's boss, not one for the ladies. Mine slipped out of 2nd once at Snett on Saturday the trick is to make sure you gve it that extra firm tug and it will stay in.
Interesting therory running with no breathers, the IROC cars ran breathers, a simple filter type in each rocker cover. Another trick I have seen is to use a mecanical fuel pump as an additional crankcase evacuator or the exhaust crank case evacuators by Moroso, they really suck! |

We (ModProds) were the first to race on it when it first opened and I was not at all impressed mind you I don't like Lydden either especialy after I wrote off my rare Chevy Monza Spyder V8 there, and back in th 60's after spending weeks preparing Roger Nathans Imp for a Dutch lady driver to write it off as well.

According to my engine builder, at one point, NASCAR teams used 6 stage pumps to create a really big vacuum in the sump, which helps the rings seal better at higher revs = more top end power.
The rules changed to outlaw it, when it started getting silly - 6 stage pumps! I should have gone for a 4 stage pump, but according to my engine guy the 3 stage one that I have will still pull a vacuum when it's not sucking oil. As for Stowe, I guess I must have done thousands of laps around there, though it was mostly driving a pace car with a bunch of F.Firsts behind me. I quite like the circuit. Yes it's short, but the two straights have good overtaking opportunities at the end, and the run from West through to South is fun through the Esses when you get it right. North is an ideal corner for Peter Thurston (are you going?) |

Pete; I told you; Sore nipples get you nowhere. Just be truthful and say it hurts. We all know driving V8s sideways means swift arm crossing; I gave you cream last week; Have you not used it? Blimey? Is this on air? Switch it off now!

Talk to Rod; He crossed his arms at Lydden in the Camso V8s while you watched. Must have hurt, and he ran on the grass, (chasing moles eh?). I was going to offer the same cream, but thought it might compromise the November Brands thrash. Bet were there you know, if we arrive on time, might get pole in the old quali; might come first eh? One for the book? Will be in the pits to apply the cream after. No good ringing to make me promise...

Just be there for quali, so we can start ahead of Rod or at least next to him! Then the job is easy peasy.

Partly my fault for working nights, sleeping during the day, and not getting the info to the supplier in time. So now not in for Stowe. I was looking forward to it. Blast. Damn. Grump. Sulks in corner with 4 gallons of ale. Rob. |
