Thumbs up to Oran Park!

What a great venue!

Easy access off the Northern Road, polite gate and parking attendants (almost unheard of!), half decent food,

Sat up near the dogleg on a vast slope of green grass with a view of almost the entire track, big screen right in front of us and the dulcet tones of one Aaron Noonan giving us the lowdown thru the PA, large esky of Bourbonskies by my side.

The racing was certainly mixed up by the weather and we had a great 2 days there, even managed a chat with sizzle who was frostbitten after coming down from Darwin.

Pit access was easy, and chatted to a few of the drivers and crew.

Only thing they could do with would be a lap board as without the PA, race 3 would have been very hard to follow! Unlikely to build one now though with housing development approaching.

Three cheers for Oran Park. I'm kicking myself for not being there since 1974...

The replacement of Mr Oliver with AA's Mr West was a welcome improvement on the PA also.... Mr Oliver lost his voice on Sunday apparently....

Shame i didn't get to see you guys i was there on Saturday sitting at turn 11 (love hearing the cars scrap the wall), i thankfully missed out on the big wet, and stayed at a mates place near the track watched Sunday on the TV at his house and made the driveback home Sunday night, i had a ball there as i always do, glad to see you and Sizzle made the trip and enjoyed it shame about the weather though.

I agree with everything you say, Have always enjoyed Oran Park since the early seventies.
My big complaint is the cost. At $260.00 for two adults and two kids ( including pits ) just for Saturday it is becoming unaffordable for Families. At least we can take a full esky in and help keep costs down We also sat at turn 11 It is my Favourite . Great veiw of the whole track and easy access to all areas

I have to agree with the people on the gate being friendly, even the credentials office was welcoming. Getting in and out was pretty easy as well. Congrads to all involved it was a great weekend. My first time but hopefully not my last.

While you keep on paying the cost, VESA will keep putting there price up.

Ever since they made the Northern Road and Cobbitty Road a Clearway Zone for the event there hasn't been a single problem with entry. This year was the first in about 10 that I didn't go to (the whole 'living in Adelaide' thing), but I can definately relate to what you guys are talking about.

It is a real downer we are going to lose it, but I guess when one door shuts another one opens (somewhere). Looking forward to my first Bathurst visit in 10 years in October, and hoping to make it to the last ever Oran Park round, whether that is next year or 2009.

I concur completely.

Oran Park was my debut V8 Supercar round on Australian soil. What a show the place put on. It left me impressed, and it made me realise what we Kiwis miss without all the bling and razza that Pukekohe never got to see. I guess it's no different to the Melbourne Grand Prix compared to a European F1 round in some ways, but it is an unfortunate miss for NZ.

It's a few years ago now, but the weather was faultless - I even got reddened a tad in the sun. The atmosphere was great. The pits are awesome, and the hospitality suites above them too.

As a dumb Kiwi, you go almost anywhere and look at anything.

Oran Park offers an ambience to it that no other race track that I have ever attended offers. Maybe it is the shape, or the loyal crowd, or the weather....I just can't pick it!

The day that Oran Park closes will be a sad one indeed, and it is one that I am sure that Tony Perich will even shed a tear on. To think that Sydney has expanded that much is pretty daunting in itself, but to know what it is about to swallow is just plain tragic.

I attended the very early meetings at Oran Park and it is definately the layout...the GP extension didn't really do much for spectators because no one can really get close to the action.

In these days of slick computer programs they should capture the layout and spectator areas (such as they are ) and try and duplicate it with the many, many improvements it needs - somewhere

Thats only true for the three rounds that VESA runs - I presume that all other rounds, the track promoters charge whatever they want.

Bearing in mind of course that the other promoters still need to make a buck after paying the VESA sanctioning fee....

As i said before it would of been good to catch up with you guys i park my bum at turn 11 so maybe next year, it's funny when you Darwin folk make the trip down you are always freezing your bum off in temperatures that are considered just cold to us, yet when we make the trip up there we are boiling bloody hot in temperatures considered just warm for you blokes.

Will hopefully be making the trip to Darwin next year, would be good to catch up with you Sizzle and have a few drinks (i will only be just under a month off legal age but a few won't hurt), will have to get a few tips off you at a latter date, will you be going up there next year AP?

If VESA really wanted to put on a show they'll run the V8 round next year on the South Circuit, that'll produce some proper action.....

I've always much preferred the shorter South Circuit.
