The Tilkedome :)

Hi there,

Decided to have a stab at a Tilke style track.

It's clockwise, and it's 4.1 miles long. It goes in and out of 'street style' (ie. closer walls, lots of buildings surrounding) and a purpose built track (more run off, bits of grass/tarmac run off, more grandstands).

There's also some good elevation:

*T3 & T4 rise, then drops quite suddenly in to T5
*T6 & T7 rise, and fall at T8 in to T9

Yeah, I can definitely see the "tilkeian" style here especially the T11-T5 half. Looks very good to me.

Suspect slight runoff problem at T3 - even with the possibly low speed due to T1-2.
Also not sure the necessary elevation change for the bridge (tunnel?) at T6-7 doesnt require too steep an ascent/descent there.
Really, is there a regulation about a minimum altitude difference for bridges over the track?

I think F1 has a limit on ascending and decending angle(against the Horizontal) of the track for slopes.

To get T6 & T7 to work it would need something of a Motorway sliproad /Highway interchange off ramp type of angle to get high enough to cross back over so quickly.

stuning!

how did you do that!??

the circuit:
I certainly has the "tilke" flavor to it, I suspect many situations in t7-t8 that there looks breathtaking I'd love to attack it in my bike!

T7 and 8 feels pretty crazy - It's kind of like a reverse Eau Rouge. Definitely satisfying.

I made the track using Bob's Track Builder. I only started it today. I have a week off so i'll definitely be building on it.

I made the video by just using a series of transparent gif images i'd created with Photoshop. I just print screened the track layout from BTB in to Photoshop, then highlighted each section, saved them individually and whacked them together in Sony Vegas. Didn't actually take too long I've always wanted to be able to show people an on-board of some of my tracks, so i'll try and keep this idea up lol

Thank you again for the feedback.

Selby

PS - Luiggi, it'd be absolutely mental on a bike

Dan,
welcome to the video club Pretty hot. BTB/rFactor I suspect?

Anyway, on the video, the slope at T6-7 doesn't seem half as bad as one would guess by the layout. And the track itself, I guess, works just perfect.

Congrats!

Looks awesome dude. I don't see why you call it the "tilkedome" but whatever. Maybe add some more elevation in the process and you have such a beautiful track.

How do you keep the track from getting twisted when you make the different points?

Dude PM me with a few more details as to what you're trying to do and i'll help however I can! Mine's still nowhere near perfect. I get a yellow every time I go over the bridge section because it's completely confused. I've now 'taught' the AI to treat them as seperate roads, but they still brake far too much for the hairpin itself because it's still getting a little confused

But i've now as good as finished the track. I'll have to upload a new version of an on-board lap

Great stuff! The most I could do is create mini versions of my tracks for Generally

Dan,
so, is this indeed a BTB/rFactor cooperation?

It is indeed mate. You know how much I've wanted this

Now I just need to research how to upload the track itself... Then you guys can give it a true test. But for now, i'll stick to the on-boards!

Just waiting for it to finish uploading/processing.

Still pretty awesome!

The first corner would stand no chance in real life - you gotta be at least as legendary a venue as Monaco with such a corner to even hope to get away with something like that - one misjudged T1 and it's SC - and that's a corner at the end of one of the fastest sections of the track. 2-3 SC sessions per race would be guaranteed

As for the vid - awesome. I know neither BTB nor rFactor are freeware (that was the prime reason i stuck with the Blender/Racer combo), but it seems pretty obvious that the results are better than with my freeware works. Two questions: first, if it's not too persnal a question, how much did they cost you? Second: how much time did it take for you to get to the state the second video shows? I get the suspicion you can work much faster with those softwares than I can with mine - and that's a very good thing If they dont cost too much, I might give them a try. I like rFactor, it's way better than Racer...

As for uploading the track files themselves - how about Dropbox?

And an important question - are you using BTB Evo or Pro? It seems like only Pro-built tracks are compatible with Racer...

(Tho I could still use GTR2 for Evo-built tracks, but i'd like to use Racer more)

Hmmm... I registered at the BTB website - or, at least, I tried to. But, thought it said it would send me an e-mail for confirmation, it never did. Thus, I cannot register and so cannot download even the demo versions... Strange...

Update: hmmm... My apologies. They did send the mail it just somehow ended up in the spam folder... How - beats me...

Downloaded and installed the demo version, watched a couple of tutorial videos and can say that it seems promising. I guess I'll do one or more of my tracks I did with Blender and compare the results...

If you get stuck with anything, just give me a PM mate. There's certain things that I just couldn't find a way to do at first.
