Dessert [iV8SC15R25] SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000: 8-11 Oct (WITH POLL)

Its almost here. Arguably the best touring car race in the southern hemisphere, if not the world! 27 cars, 54 drivers, one mountain.

The teams prepare all year for this race, the Great Race. Building new chassis with a view to having them around for this event, planning engine updates & upgrades, finding homes for their copilots to run in other categories to keep the miles up.

This is the big one.

And we get to see cool stuff like the top 10 shootout. (Better known as 'Hardie's Heroes' back in the day..) where we will see one man or woman out on the track by themselves, brand new rubber, taking risks with their race car to be the fastest on that Saturday session.

Can't wait to watch!!

It is impossible to pick an absolute favourite, so its time for a poll.

Please tell us who might be a good'n and post why...

Driver TBA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I went #55 purely because I'd love to see Canto win it. Would also give FPR/PRA a 3 peat with 3 different cars.

Can't see anyone else outside of #5, #6, #1 and #888.

No doubt throughout the day there will be some pretenders, such as the #97 and maybe #55 but anyone outside of the first four mentioned above would be a surprise.

Might have had the #2 and #22 in there, but nothing from either of them did much to convince that a win is possible. A podium for #2, maybe, and for the #22 a top 15 will be a good result.

If they put a decent co-driver with Pye I think he would have a chance, but not with the current no hoper. I don't know where they found him.

Although look who was in a winning car last year. I don't know if anyone would have picked that.

That said, I'm finding it difficult to go past a back to back Bathurst victories for Chaz (now with a decent co-driver). A couple more laps at Sandown and they would have had Frosty/Owen.

It's going to be a good race!

I can remember all those Fordies going mental on Pit Straight when the "drought" broke in '06.

But it's getting a bit tiresome now.

Stirring?
Marcos will be fine. If there is one thing that will push him to his peak, it will be the need to win a Bathurst1000.
Just don't let him start!

Agree with Chaz/Cam being the favourites.
I had Car #6 down for the Sandown win too. Practically nothing in it by the end

Agreed. One more at least The tiresome is well balanced by not winning the championship those year

On a side night, reckon Holden aero package will come into play at Bathurst, especially with the new drop gear

Hard to predict where the gains may be regarding aero and ratios.
Is the drop gear used on the weekend, teh same one for Bathurst, or is it another ratio again?

Its very unusual to see nobody giving Lowndes a chance for the win.

To be honest, since Whincup was nowhere close to leading the C'ship, my thoughts have been he will be hitting the mountain like a madman. You think he drove flatout last year? With nothing to lose and everything to gain in this next round, he will be taking it to new levels I'm sure (as long as his car can keep up with him).

Maybe, if they can keep them from going off-track because of less downforce.

My money is on Waters to bin it at some stage over the weekend. The boy's quick, but seems a little loose to me.

For me, #97. If they can keep tyres under the thing, they'll be the ones to take it to the PRA boys.

Pra will be bullets along the top of the mountain but the #1 pairing is still the strongest in the field imo. If they can get to the bottom of their consumption confusion (mapping?) then they'll be the car to beat. Those blue things will be hot on heels though.

Wouldn't be surprised to see an hrt car materialise from nowhere on the podium either.

I've just realised that come Bathurst weekend, I'll be away from all TV feeds and likely internet.
Maybe time to get a satellite phone?

This is what I am afraid of after how the stint ended at Sandown, he was looking very squirrelly and looked VERY happy to be out of the car.

Was there an issue with physical fitness or an issue with concentration?

This is a tough gig and the guy is still very young.

Scotty Mac binned it last year and was probably more match-fit than Cam is now. Just so unforgiving, lots of places you can go offline but at The Mountain, one mistake and your day is done. Except if you're Paul Morris I guess!
