Panozes LMP for sale, and no factory in ALMS in 2004...

According to a communique on the SpiritOf Site :
- the Panozes (LMP1) are for sale,
- there's no factory entry in the 2004' ALMS anymore
- Don Panoz seems confident in the fact that the 2004' Esperante will be enter by private teams (no entry by the factory as well).

This is not good news, IMHO, but could have good effetcs :
- what if an european team dares to by some ? We'll have Panozes in the LMES !
- it's better than the disparition of the cars (see Bentley : what a shame !)...

As Tim use to say : your thoughts ?

Saw this in Autosport on Thrusday and I have to say its a real shame.

I have a feeling that this Uncle Don, not wanting to money into something which is not getting results. The word on the street is that they will be returning with a GTS car in 2005. I hope they do come back as it wouldn't be the same with out them.

Lets just hope someone picks up the car and runs them in the ALMS/LMES and of course Le Mans.

The Panozes proved this year at LM that they could do very good : best of the rest, if I can remember !

Ture, and they do seem to be getting stronger in the ALMS too they just can't beat those Audi's, I just have a feeling that they are cutting there losses and getting out.

I recall reading several interviews with Dr Panoz, and he always said that Panoz, as a smaller manufacturer, belonged in the GT classes, so this is no suprise. Robert

I still think these cars will show up next year with some Panoz $ backing them. Unless there are some new suprise entries next year, I would be suprised to see Don let the LMP numbers sag beyond where they are. Then again.

Panoz has entered a GTP in the LM 1000km....the list is now public....

Maybe that's why they are selling the "other" prototypes and offering the GT to privateers....

They've been building a closed cockpit car that will be unveiled at the LM 1000km.....

Don did a great job of keeping that one under wraps.......

 Possibly not. He has a roadcar coupe derivative that he has been using in his `school sessions' and proprietary races. Not having seen the `new one' I can't be sure but it could have been turned into a fire-breathing monster with some engine work.

I wonder why don wants to stop with the lmp 900. Last year the lmp 900 had a smaler restricktor. I heard that the smaler restricktor didn t have much influenceon to the performence of the engine because of lower amout of rev.s comparing to the turbo charged engines. I should say tray it again with te monster!!!!!

Please disregard the above statement. The cars is chassis #003 from 1998. One of the "Batmobile" styled orininal Panoz. I requires only slight body modifications. What goes around, comes around (or someting like that).

It'll be nice and novel to see the GTR-1 run....

 Hopefully it will "run". The debut at Sebring that year was "inauspicious".

Interestingly, the Panoz GTR qualified at Mosport at 1:14.710 in 1998.

This year, Bucknum in 675 Pilbeam qualified at 1:13.642, Collins GTS Vette at 1:14.417.

Looks like the Panoz will race pretty competitively with the GTS cars, but not much more. Perhaps they are looking to homologate for GTS?
