Pike's Peak claims another
Son of the late Ralph Bruning, Ralph Bruning Jr. was killed today in qualifying for the Pike's Peak Hillclimb. His Chevy Monte Carlo Super Stock car left the course and was impaled upon a nearby tree. Bruning had succumbed to injuries before emergency personnel arrived. Ralph Bruning Sr. died from pancreatic cancer just last year after supervising his son in racing up the mountain. Bruning Sr. has won the Super Stock class 8 times during the 80s and 90s.
My condolences go out to the family, friends, and fellow racers. |

A large part of Colorado Springs is feeling the Bruning family's pain - apparently the whole family have been a big part of the hillclimb for a long time. My condolences to them all.
I was interested to discover that this is only the third fatality in the 79 years that the hillclimb has run. While it doesn't ease the pain, that is a tribute to the competitors and officials. Last edited by Emfa; 1 Jul 2001 at 05:15. |
