Rumour mill: Jordan/Penske/De Ferran..?
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns12072.html
The old rumour mill churns away, I think anyone seen in the same county as an F1 boss is in line for a drive... Anyway, here we go - rumour that Roger Penske is in discussion with EJ about a ride in 2004 for Gil De Ferran. You may remember that De Ferran is in fact retiring from the IRL this year, and thought to be from racing in general. However he still hankers after an F1 ride, and has set RP on the case. Ho hum... |

won't happen cos he will be seen as too old. Look what happened to McNish. Jordan need the money and a driver like Jacques to get them on up there but saying that they let Fisi go again now didn't they!!!
When will they ever learn? |

Surely hes too old at 35? + They always say that driving in indycar leads to a driver developing a driving style not suited to F1, and hes spent 10 years picking up 'bad habits'! He wont get much testing with cash strapped Jordan, either. Methinks he'd be better off retiring....

I'd be astonished (but, at least in part, delighted) if this rumour turned out to be true.

He's not much older than Damon Hill was when he started,a dn he has lots of invaluable experience about racing, and coping with the bad times. It still seems unlikely though, unless significant sponsorship can be found. Besides, I doubt Angela De Ferran will be happy. |

This whole Jordan situation looks so sad I think I'd rather see them bring down the shutters for good than limp round at the back for another year.

Or do you mean the guy who used to drive a BAR and has the highest amount of threads dedicated to him on the F1 forum?? (been almost a week since we had a JACQUES thread new record??) |

Big If, ... but if, then there is still Helio Castroneves, who is enough young to do F1 programme and he is staying with Penske for a long time

I'd ,ove to see either of the Penske boys in F1, they are both brilliant road racers and it was a big loss to CART when they jumped ship.

Awww, don't get my hopes up like that!!! Do you know how badly I wanted to see Gil in F1 before he retired!?!? If this comes true I will be the happiest girl in the world... then again, if it doesn't I won't be too surprised.

It would be interesting to have happen, the dollars certainly exist in Penske-land for it to be a possibility... Interesting for him to be Marlboro sponsored in the IRL and possibly B&H sponsored in the Jordan though... or is there still more details to be nutted out
And I thought Jos Verstappen would have rated pretty high in numbers of threads/posts/stories/fun... |

Bugger Gil moving to F1, what about RP coming back and finishing what he started in the mid '70's? Its EASY!! Buy Eddie out, plonk Helio and JV in a pair of Penske Toyota's on Bridgestone tyres, sponsored by Nokia, Pepsi etc and there we go. A fresh, new and potentially exciting F1 team for 2004!
Sorry about that little bit of temporary insanity! Gil won't drive F1. |

That's just like saying Minardi are going to race a two-seater next year with Kiesa/Baumgartner in the No.1 car and Senna/Ratzenberger in the other. Sorry, but its not gona happen!!

While i can't see it happening i wouldn't discount anything when Eddie Jordan's involved, if the offer was right Eddie would give anything serious consideration.

They also come downunder to win every now and then in Gold Coast Da Matta (yeah... the F1 rookie of the year IMHO) used to race him... I think he won 2 Cart Championships and also a very famous race somewhere in the US! Last edited by DieRitter; 22 Oct 2003 at 01:41. |

I kind of doubt it happening, but I'm pretty sure he could handle it. In fact Gil would be very well suited for it. Gil is very percise in his driving from both a physical driving perspective and from an analytical perspective. Gil turned down F1 opportunities earlier in his career, why not do it now for a year or two?
