Monaco GP Historique
My OH asked if I'd be interested - she'd seen some adverts for a minibreak . After picking myself up from the floor - racing is not normally her thing - the answer was yes, of course . Obviously I've seen it on TV -and it looks to have all the appeal of the modern race but without all the bad bits of modern F1 . Is this a gift horse I should look in the mouth - any problems re circuit access etc ? I'm tempted just to say a resounding YES .
If you've been I'd value your experience . |

Brilliant. Do it. It's a great experience and there's often some very, very good racing.
Haven't been for a few years but I've done it twice and the old man has been 3 times. I suspect it's getting busier these days but well worth it, my last time was the 2016 edition when this happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sE7vlIh_N8 We stayed in Nice and train in every day as it's only about 10 euros (although don't forget to validate ticket else it can cost a lot more). In Monte Carlo it's a short walk to the track but allow a bit more time on race day. Fridays the grandstands aren't reserved so a good chance to see some different parts of the track. I enjoyed being at Casino Square on those days as it's a 'must do' but probably more suited to practice day than racing. Personally I like to have a different spot for each day, I'd avoid the swimming pool grandstand which is marina side of the tracks as it's a bit far away. THe old man reckoned down by Tabac looking up towards the chicane was good, and I liked being at the back of the same grandstand as you can look over the back to the start/finish. I say do it, you get the Monaco experience for a fraction of the price, with more track action, more romantic cars and fewer people. In 2012 we noted that a Sunday ticket for the GP a few weeks later was something like 400 euros a seat. So for less money we'd had 2.5 days of racing, flights, transfers, accommodation and food/drink. Not sure if the photos will work, but hopefully do and give you an idea of what was there in 2012 |

You need to put your train ticket into the yellow machine at the station at the start of your journey. The machine prints something on your ticket to validate it. Alternatives to Nice are Menton (12 minutes on the train from Monaco) or the lovely town of Villefranche-sur-Mer which is about 2 stops on the train from Nice.

I'm very much looking forward to it. Anyone going down there need a truckie/awning builder? (7.5t maximum) I've booked myself out from the race weekend I'm due to work at so I may as well make an adventure of it.

Monaco GP Historique spectating
Hi all
After enjoying motor sport for many years as a race marshal, had to take 3 years out due to illness, now much better and hoping to do the above as a spectator in 2020. Looking online lots of high end packages, but I am on a budget. Are there entry fees each day for the stands, if so how expensive? Planning on staying in Nice and getting the train each day, is this the simplest option. TIA Barry |

Monaco GP Historique grandstands 2020
After advice please.
I have booked flights and accommodation for this May, now looking for best viewing points a reasonable cost. I am looking at possibly the casino grandstand but the admin charges on tickets seem very high. Do i need to buy these in advance, or can I get them there? Any advice on other exciting locations to watch from? Also hoping to do some photography while there. Barry |

As we were up to 4 threads regarding the event, I’ve combined them all, and they’re plugged into the HRT calendar.....

The prices are all the same the seats are now allocated for this meeting. Cheapest option is to book direct here. https://acm.mc/en/edition/grand-prix...-edition-2020/ |

Me too- it is one of the very few race circuits I feel I know my way around , purely from watching Grands Prix on TV, Wouldn't have a clue where Yas Marina's corners went , in common with most modern circuits .
I wonder how different it feels on the ground ? I expect I will notice the elevation changes most . But I don't doubt it will beat Croft on a wet Saturday anyway ... |

Monaco is always Monaco
For those at their first experience they will enjoy it without compromise.
Everything is at walking distance and on Sunday with the ticket in your hand you can visit the paddock entering by the old yacht club. If I'm not mistaken this year the price for Sunday races is Euro 100, which is 3 times of 2 years ago and they have again removed the F3 race that in Monaco is always very entertaining. Going there by train is very clever and please chose a seat with the giant screen in front…. |

Shame not to have the F3 race as usually pretty entertaining, but it's a great meeting regardless. Also a shame that the price has shot up (I think my first year we paid about 40 euros for the weekend tickets!), but I guess that's the price of success. |

The ACM site is showing 50Euro for Saturday and 100Euro for Sunday. Agree its a massive increase compared to the 40 odd Euro I paid 4 years ago for a ticket that covered Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
With just 7 races and masses of hanging around, sadly this is another once great meeting that has gone on to my avoid list. Last edited by The SpeCTator; 4 Jan 2020 at 23:20. |

With the remarkably F1 focussed timetable I assume that the organisers have come under some pressure from the car owners for this year's event.
Perhaps people feel there have been too many cars on the grid in some races in previous years and wish to reduce the runners to numbers more in keeping with the races in period? Are there enough cars around to fill the grids? I assume the homework has been done and the owners of potential entries have been consulted. If not the plan looks like a bit of a leap of faith. "Build it and they will come" concepts? I will look forward to seeing the entry lists. |

Monaco Historic has a much bigger picture . The true fans want F3 and FJ back racing around the streets . “So do I”. F1 in money money money . Yes I will miss thundering through the tunnel and trying to keep foot in around the swimming pool but I can tell the grand kids I did once race at Monaco . Happy days .

And Iain you are the lead picture on the ACM web site unless I am mistaken!
With around 16,000 grandstand seats and an increase around 100 Euro per seat, ACM should be pleased with their F1 led strategy. Unless of course they reduced competitor entry fees to reflect their new found spectator funded wealth! Agree with Iain when the F3 and FJ went away, so did I. However to all those racing or watching, enjoy it, it really is a unique experience. |
