GRC Round 6 - X Games LA, USA

Driver (sorry, athlete) list is up on the ESPN website now:

http://xgames.espn.go.com/events/2013/los-angeles/invitedathletes/

...but to save you clicking:

Tanner Foust (OMSE Ford Fiesta)
Toomas Heikkinen (OMSE Ford Fiesta)
Brian Deegan (OMSE Ford Fiesta)
Patrick Sandell (OMSE Ford Fiesta)
Steve Arpin (OMSE2 Ford Fiesta)
Scott Speed (OMSE2 Ford Fiesta)
Travis Pastrana (Pastrana Racing Dodge Dart)
Bryce Menzies (Pastrana Racing Dodge Dart)
Sverre Isachsen (Puma Subaru Impreza GR)
Dave Mirra (Puma Subaru Impreza GR)
Bucky Lasek (Puma Subaru Impreza GR)
Ken Block (Hoonigan Racing Ford Fiesta)
Liam Doran (LD Motorsports MINI)
Anton Marklund (Marklund Motorsport VW Polo)
Nelson Piquet Jnr. (X Team Racing Mitsubishi)
Pat Moro (Chevy Sonic)
Rhys Millen ()
David Sterckx ()
Stephan Verdier ()

Interesting to see Millen and Verdier on the entry list, I wonder what they will be driving. Ditto for David Sterckx. He drives an Impreza in the Rally America series? If Sverre is driving the Gunnarson Impreza perhaps he getting the "spare" Subaru/Puma rallycross car?

Also interested to see what track layout they are going for with the event being run at Irwindale instead of on the streets of LA. As the "main" event in the GRC calendar I'm hoping that we see some sensible track design that will allow everyone to start without collision: I suspect that may be wishful thinking though...

I was hoping that Loeb might use X-Games LA as a test session before appearing at Loheac next month (I assume the preperation of his car is underway?), but no sign on the entry list at the moment!

Didn't Timur recently say he was going to LA as well? there is another for your entry list.

Irwindale laid out a good track in 2011 but that had the crossover so will need to be adjusted. I am not sure where Gymkhana Grid is happening at Irwindale but persumably in the oval which may mean an overnight track build. That would have been one of the benefits in moving from downtown LA but guess that is lost now.

Verdier wrote on FB he is driving his 06 Subaru Impreza, his old GRC car.

Loeb using the X Games as testing seems just odd. Getting a car over to LA for a test and then whole the way back to Europe. To expensive really and not necessary for testing.

According to ERC24 back a few months ago, Loeb was connected to drive a Citroen DS3 of Herve Knapick in Loheac (of topic but still). Also Solberg was rumored to drive a car from an unknown manufacture.

Isn't there anyone to drive the other Polo of Marklund? I mean this race is the big one in GRC and X Games, feels "given" to have a guest driver in his team

Americans are strange. A lot of talks in the US press today about a new team for Scott Speed in LA, but no-one tells what car. As if the guy could win in any car...

Don't understand jack (I'm slow right know) but I would go for TT, the only guy with an A in his name. Also he's an Red Bull athlete and Volkswagen is sponsored by Red Bull. Ekström and Sainz are also "Red Bullers" so TT fits in very good, if I'm not completely wrong or out cycling

I will be driving my old 06 STI that I ran in 2011. I couldn't found a ride and my car was sitting in the driveway. I will be the only privateer in the field. I don't expect to win (would love to) the cars have progressed a lot since 2011 but mine hasn't. Kaps was nice enough to send me a sequential gear box but it's stuck in Custom since last thursday and I might not get it in time for the X-Games. That means I will have to race with my OEM H-patern gearbox.
But one thing I learn about rallycross, you never know what can happen. My main goal is to make the final... We'll see!!!
It's gonna be a lot of fun!!!

It's sad that Verdier (welcome to Ten Tenths!) and Millen can't get a works deal Hyundai shouldn't have left GRX.

@ crossfades: Just change one of your five question marks (?) into an exclamation mark (!). The name you look for is not yet on the list of the 28 invited drivers, Team MM PR is said to come on Sunday eve.

Webfind, love the "other obstacles"...

Quote: "The last American to compete in Formula One will be competing on Aug. 4 in Los Angeles for DRR-SH, a partnership of two IndyCar team principals who formed the team specifically to enter the X Games. Global RallyCross features a mixture of dirt, asphalt, jumps, and other obstacles."

Blimey, that is pretty nice of them. Can you tell them that my Scoob is sitting on the driveway as well and see if they send me one!

Yeah, it is a very long round trip for testing purposes, but I wondered if there would be some incentive to come back and defend last years win.

I did wonder if we might get a second MINI for X-Games LA, as Danny Way was testing a while back, wasn't he? Maybe a bit too much for Prodrive to produce a second car for a fresh driver though.

Found the DRR-SH page on Facebook (here: https://www.facebook.com/DRRSHGlobalRallycross), no mention of what car they are running though? Is it a Fiesta or something else?

Hmm okay, I get it now. Well I am a good guesser!

DRR-SH, aren't they supposed to have a cooperation with OMSE to race a Fiesta? Read that somewhere.

In swedish Värmlands Folkblad he said after Höljes that he promised to return next year and that this event was the most fun he had ever had racing. Though, he could do more rallycross competition, but as a professional hobby. In a Red Bull diary he said “If you eat a fillet steak every day a fillet steak gets boring and a sandwich is nicer. I got a sandwich this weekend and it tasted pretty good”.

Yeah, but Ekström had an interview with US web-radio man Bill Wood this week and I understood he has currently no time to do more Rallycross.

Are DRR-SH doing this to try out something new? Scott Speed said running with them would give him a chance at a gold. What's the difference from before? He still has the old car and they are running in conjunction with OMSE, the team which he won in Brazil with. So beside of the sponsors, what is different? I can't see the point in all this

Any news of Eklund's Volkswagen Beetle? Saw a picture of the rollcage, also heard it was going slow. But that was months ago

Maybe with lotsa money backed Speed can push much harder...
But I think he feels pretty supreme. Read somewhere something like "I'm the fastest out there"...

Tja, Per's Beetle...
