VW Nut......

I'm not at that particular meeting but it's pretty straightforward.......

You'll enter at the gate by Camp Corner (As the main road goes past the circuit, it bends to the right at - there's a little lane off to the left which leads to the gate.)

When you enter this gate you will then see other marshals lining up (Couldn't spell queuing!) to sign on in the porta-cabin.

When you get into the porta cabin, the Chief Marshals Adrian & Nicki should be there - simply tell them it's your first time and they will then tell you all you need to know.

You'll love it that much, that you'll come back for the Ferrari Festival on the Bank Holiday Monday - If so, I'll see you there!

Mark

vw_nut, welcome to Combe, you could not have picked a better circuit to begin your marshalling career, we are a pretty friendly bunch down here in the South West and you will see first hand how a slick motor race meeting should be run. That particular meeting is a mix of historic chamionships (for the HSCC) and also rounds of our own GT's, F Fords and saloons, probably about 10 races, good grids, starting racing about 1.00pm and finishing before 6.00pm, practice usually starts at 8.35am, so sign on at about 7.45/8.00am would be good.

I am off to Croix today, but if you need any more info please send me a PM and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I will be marshalling there that day also, have fun.

As Balders said, you'll have a great day. It will be a 11 race event with the local championships included and being HSCC, good entries as well.Just bring a big bag of enthusiasm and clothing for all weathers.

Just a tip, breakfast is served from 07:00am onwards in the Tavern, so you can get there early enough to sign on and have breakfast before going out on post. Just make yourself known at sign on and you will be pointed in the right direction.

(Mark, we could perhaps recreate Maggotts Observers Box for the Bank Holiday meeting seeing we are both missing this weekend)

Welcome to marshalling. I'll be there on the 7th, so I'll look out for the obviously lost person.

Combe is the friendliest place I've marshalled, so I'm sure you'll receive a warm welcome. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, yet it's down as my home circuit, despite Brands and Rockingham both being an hour away.

Best advice I can give you is don't be afraid to ask anyone anything. Don't ask, you don't find out. After 3 years I still ask stupid questions, but they often turn out not to be so stupid. We all keep on learning.

Good luck for your first meeting,

Phill

OK!
All marshals would need to be trackside (Stand up straight on the white line) by 7:30am

We'll wear daft bibs that tear as soon as I look at them (Nowt to do with the fact that I am fat!)

The we'll just hang around doing nothing for two hours!!

Yep - it'll be just like the GP

oh the predictablity of borula 1 such potental so bad results. i think the wings should be done away with and the tyres to have grip and the engine more power (nice american v8 or something) then we will see who the true drivers are. i'm lookibng forward to it now should be a good laugh. which is the buyist post at castle combe?

Predicting the busiest post is like predicting 6 numbers in the Lottery. Post C(Quarry) and G & H(Tower) can be lively along with the Bobbies & Esses. A1 (Folly) and B(Avon Rise) can be quiet but on their day, all hell can break loose there.

All the posts are interesting in their own particular way. Over a season you'll get to see a fair part of the circuit and you'll soon see how accodents can happen anywhere.

Exactly. In the wet, Folly becomes a corner, in the dry it's flat.

Expect the unexpected and you won't go far wrong.

The most important thing is to enjoy your day, and if you are not sure, ask.

You'll hear that question at the GP. "Am I enjoying myself yet?"

Have a great day out and welcome to the madhouse. You'll enjoy it in here, I'm sure.

Don't forget, if you don't like it out on the bank you have got the option of startline, assembly, pits and race phones, although I wouldn't recommend the latter until you get a bit more experience. I know, I tried it earlier this year at Oulton and its hard work!

Who me, touting for business? As if.
