Alpina B6S GT3 car (BMW M6)

I downloaded that 2008 FIAGT3 press pack and there is a "coming soon" car, listed between Ascari and Corvette, BMW M6 maybe? I heard rumors about that.

Nah, rather an M3. I think the new M3 is supposed to be prepared into GT2 and GT3 version.

I think that maybe in 2009 we will still see a GT3 BMW M3.

Assuming that list was alphabetical, and seeing as Alpina is registered as manufacturer, the Alpina 6-series would have to be listed above the Ascari, shouldn't it?

I've read about the Alpina plans in the current sport auto, but I can't recall any other recent motorsports effort of theirs, and while the 6-series GT3 might come around, I wouldn't hold my breath or expect it soon.

The BMW M3 GT3 on the other hand seems like a done and dusted deal to me. In January a GT2 study should be presented in Detroit. I expect a GT3 to follow shortly.

The US ( big BMW Market) does not have GT3 races, but a GT2 version would be a great idea too showcase the new car.

The GT3 would important for the home market though, especially the national GT series. The ADAC GT Masters alone would justify a GT3 for BMW. In addition, I think the VLN will accommodate GT3s within their classes in this or next year's rules and regulations and that would be vitally important for BMW, as well being close to their heart anyway.

Might be Closed to GARR GT Prep 1 rules, however, the GT Prep II rules ( semi tube frame cars) are faster.

@minimangler:

Doesn't GT3 have requirements regarding the minimum number of cars of each model? Would Duller really prepare enough GT3s of the BMW Motorsports Z4 to have the car join the grid?

I think you are right Satorian, it would also explain why there arent many Z4's racing on the international scene. If the car had been homlogated in sufficent numbers we would surely see it racing in the FIA GT3 championship or British GT's or another national series because as we know it is very competitve.

IIRC it isn't GT3-leagal in its current specification. The VLN-style wing goes out quite a bit behind the rear end of the bodywork and that's illegal in almost all major GT-racing series. And a different rear wing design might compromise the amount of downforce generated. I think that's why PTG never turned the Z4 into an GT2 car.
Maybe FIA would give BMW a special dispensation if they asked for it, who knows....

@Mods: Is it possible to change title of this topic? E.g. "Alpina B6S GT3 car (BMW M6)"
