My Off-Topic Weekend
With apologies, I didn't want to start a new thread.
But, to respect drivergrOupie, and to answer the many questions... I had a GREAT weekend! On Saturday, I got to meet Phil Hill! Our small town happens to be home to one of the world's most-renowned auto restoration facilities, R&M. They were celebrating their 25th anniversary, and held Canada's largest car show. George Barris was here with the entire Batmobile collection, including Batboat and DuckMobile. Even Roscoe P. Cotrain's police car from The Dukes of Hazzard! There were over 1500 cars on display, it was awesome. Tons of pictures here. I went in with my cousin, who had a 71 Mustang convertible pre-registered. On Sunday, I ordered five Las Vegas 400 tickets! And so, even though it included no motorsport, I had a great weekend!!! And again, I apologize for going off-topic with a thread, but it would take me a month to answer the PM's. And the fact that I ordered race tickets makes it somewhat on-topic, no? |

Pretty respectable way to spend a weekend when there's not much racing if you ask me! Thanks for sharing.
I'm guessing that all those photo's are jpeg's? (They seem to have lost their file extensions! ) |

Yes, they're jpegs. I wish that I had a way of providing thumbnails, but I don't. Some (many) of the cars were AMAZING.
One important thing that I forgot to mention - is how wonderful of a gentleman Mr. Hill is. "I'd be more than happy to," he said with a genuine smile. He was showing the years, his hand was quite shakey, and he concentrated on every individual line in his signature. Now I have four former WDC's on my wall, and never in my life did I think that I'd meet one in Chatham! |

Just curious if you knew Mr. Hill was going to be there before you went or if it was just a happy coincidence?

I knew he was to help judge the Canadian Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, so I was really hoping that I'd run into him at the show on Saturday. Had just about given up hope, until I noticed him just as we were preparing to leave. Only one other person in the crowd realized who he was, and thus we both had a "personal" moment with the man.

That's great! Glad to know you got you Vegas tickets too. Now you can get your daughters "original" signed by PT too. I'll still try to get a copy signed just in case.

Have to agree with Flatspot...."what do you mean no motorsport", Macdaddy? You have 3 pics of Rob Atchison's (he's from my hometown of London, Ontario) IHRA Funny Car! http://www.ihra.com/profile/funnycar/rob_atchison.html

Hate to revive an old thread that didn't belong on the board in the first place, but...
I'd like to thank racefanatic for printing my daughter's picture, bringing it to Cleveland to have PT sign it, and mailing it to her. It arrived today - her sixth birthday - perfect timing. She hasn't seen it yet, but I know she's gonna be absolutely thrilled. And I'd like to thank everybody else who offered to do this for her. 10T's is a great family to be a part of. |
