Assuming the caravan repair/overhaul is done by then, I'll be joining you. Beers on the terrace? Don't think I'll try the bar after last time!

If it's not done, I'll be driving in.

Didn't you have an ''electrics'' problem? Don't worry too much, I've a couple of spare AA batteries if you need them. See you on the terrace.

I'll save the camping until it's a bit warmer I think, the Britcar24 sounds about right :P

Looking forward to this one, I really enjoyed the British GT's so this should be even better.

You have a good memory. Charger is dud. That's one of the things being overhauled (ie, thrown away and replaced). Along with the rear shelf which I broke going over the bumps into that campsite when I hit it a bit hard. Good week-end that was otherwise.

Hope we're in the Copse site, much prefer that one myself.

Anybody who has already seen the timetable for this meeting will have noticed the early starts and late finishes. Therefore, on behalf of the BRSCC, Silverstone and SRO, I'm pleased to announce to all marshals that breakfast vouchers will be given out on all three days and that there will be free hot food and a drink on Friday and Saturday evenings. Pam Dearn is liaising with the Paddock Diner management to ensure that it will be open and the food available at the times we need it.

Free food etc is one thing and is a fantastic gesture by the BRSCC, SRO and Silverstone Circuit, but there is virtually no stand down time and as has been said about many meetings before, marshals often like to have a wander round the paddock to see the cars, soak up the atmosphere etc. and also its nice to have a break.

I'm not doing this meeting, it is going to be one of my few weekends off for the 2008 season, but looking at that I'm certainly glad I'm not doing it.

Have a good and enjoyable weekend those that are.

Is the timetable really that bad? I'm used to 8.30 starts and 6.30 curfews, and this doesn't seem to be that much outside that. There also seems to be some longer gaps between action on the Saturday and Sunday - admittedly the Friday looks quite tight, which is unfortunately the only day I can do. I'm sure the free food will be very much appreciated I'm looking forward to it anyway.

The long day doesn't really bother me, It's what I have come to expect with the big international race meetings. Granted I am only doing the Saturday and Sunday and staying localy, it would be a different story if I was making the journey each morning. There are some reasonably lengthy breaks during the day really, ranging between 10 minutes to a massive 1 hour 35 minutes on the sunday.

If the British GT champtionship is anything to go by this meeting should be great, I'm a sucker for modern supercars. Oh, the free food and breakfast will be more than appreciated

It is a bit extreme, and it's a sad fact that we're expected to put up with this for a so-called 'prestige' meeting. You would have thought they would organise things to ensure as many experienced marshals as possible wanted to attend.

It's also a sad fact that much of that is junk. Hours of untimed practice for support races.

I'm also stuck on endurance sportscars. GTs and Prototypes, and despite myself I keep coming back. Parf of that is because many of what I deem to be the best races I've been to are in that category.

Having said that, I'm very appreciative of PieMan's post. The fact is that despite the timetable someone - and I wish I knew who so that I could direct the thanks properly - has clearly considered the marshals and done something worthwhile to show that they're thinking of us and doing something to redress the balance. Thank you to whoever is responsible for that. At the risk of this sounding mercenary, can I assume that marshals' companions are welcome to the evenings as well? My wife will be there, but may not be marshalling, but it wouldn't be popular or pleasant if, at the end of a long day, I then disappear to a meal to which she isn't invited. In the end, my availability to marshal depends to a large extent on her goodwill.

Thank you, in anticipation.

Does anyone know how big the grids are. I don't think we mind long days as long as the grids are full and there is some good racing. if I recall last year the GT4's were a bit of a bore because there were not enough of them.

By the looks of the 2008 entry list there will be 30-40 GT Cars. Not sure about the supporting races.

should be an excellent 3 days, not bothered about the long days,
this was what got me into marshaling, went to watch this last year with family,
thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
This time i will be other side of the fence.
