JJ to test for Opel again

Ex-BMW and Cadillac driver JJ Lehto will again test for Opel and should drive for the team at the next DTM round at the A1-Ring. Could this be his destination after Cadillac decided to pull the plug on their sportscar programme? I would have thought no end of offers would have come in for him. Having said that, the DTM race could be a 1 off.

But Cadillac, doesn't have a competitive coupe? The closest is the Elderado and I can't imagine that big behemoth racing. Then there's the convertible/roadser Cien. But the Cien is much larger than the Audi TT, and closer to the 500SL in size? So that car won't be racing?

The connection is General Motors, who own Cadillac and Opel amongst others!

Didn't Lehto race for Opel in the DTM or ITC at one point?

JJ did indeed race for Opel in the DTM and ITC in '95, and agian in the ITC in '96.

And if you hadn't already heard, JJ is now confirmed as Yves Olivier's replacement at Opel for the A1 Ring race, but it is currently being touted as a one-off drive, with the possiblity of a race seat next year.

I guess Olivier has under-performed?

Too bad no Canadian drivers have been asked to race in the DTM? The late Canadian CART protege Greg Moore dabbled in touring cars!! Earlier on, he did a one-off DTM race in an Opel Omega while later, he raced in a CLK GTR for MB.

Canada has some good touring drivers that could do well in the DTM like David Empringham and Scott Maxwell who are leading their class in Grand Am Cup are have started on pole for today's race at Virginia International Raceway.
