Friday's stupid question
Pit Booms: we saw what happened at the 1st pit stop for SBR at Bathurst, Ingall scheduled in, Courtney next lap, Courntey's car goes "COUGH" and they bring him in for a refuel 1 lap early, and Ingall comes in as well, and has to wait in line. Same thing when the safety car comes out in a sprint race, they all pile in to the pits together and if necessary the 2nd placed car waits for the 1st to be serviced.
Now the question, what do teams do when they share the boom with another eg TKR and IRC/RNR? do they toss a coin? have a gentlemans agreement about who is 1st on the track gets 1st choice? do they work together on strategy to ensure both cars don't come into the pits together? |

First in best dressed. Second can wait.
Just like roundabout rules |

While you'd hope they'd communicate their intentions to each other, first in best dressed would be the only way this seems to work

I'd like to suggest something totally unrealistic.
You can't change the length of the pits (pit buildings, pit straight etc). So you can't fit more pit booms in that way... So... make the pits wider. So each car could enter side by side and get serviced at the same time. Woohoo. All worldly problems solved. |

that dosnt work, if you cant make them longer how do you make them wider
plus then you need to have more people in your pit crew |

I reckon they can be made a bit over a carwidths wider rather easily. After all, these days most of the cars go in angle parking after most sessions and they still have sufficient space for cars to drive past them. You would need another 3 metres width to accommodate 2 cars side by side.
Yeah you'd need more pit crew. so what haha. Most teams have them, they are usually mechanics who are at the meet anyway. And maybe the guy who does the inside wheels could do both cars... like he does one wheel, then does a 180 and do the other cars wheel. Isnt this just filled with fantastic logic... |

Go to Chadstone Shopping Centre carpark and you'll soon see why this idea is a bit silly.

Yeh sur, build pit lane to accommandate 32 cars, what treack in aus could have this?. No go , as there is this great thing of having two car teams, then you have to accept the circumstances, no for fuel, but blown tyes etc .
Just imagine the laps lost if we pits to suit the whole field. Johhny Smiffovetan leads by 45 secs, to enter the pits and fuel and change tyres takes 1 min 20 secs (pitlane speed limiter on) , from leader to also ran. The taxi line is boring enough |
