Catchpole should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Classic Rallycross

Now come on chaps we all remember sitting down in the seventies on Saturday afternoon and waiting to see if Grandstand was covering Scrambling (when did it get renamed motor X?) or Rallycross.

Of course we would watch either, but it was always better if it was the latter.

What am I rambling about? Well I am trying to figure out if this form of motorsport has a classic movement?

I have managed to track that there was a revival part to a Lydden meeting in August and there is a mini cross revival group http://www.mini-cross.co.uk/mdacalendar.php

But is there a group who run these old escorts minis etc?

I would love to here from them.

You may get more answers if you ask the question again in the rallycross forum but the old cars are largely still eligible for the current rallycross events. At the moment there is no historic championship as such and as you say at Lydden in August there was a classic demo. The old cars can still hold their own - Martin won a heat with our rally car Mk2 Escort in the winter series at Lydden.

I think part of the reason that the historic cars are thin on the ground is that they're worth more in either race or rally trim. A lot of the Escorts and certainly a large number of the Group B cars have been put back into rally spec - simply because the resale value is higher and not that many people are bothered about the rallycross period of the cars history (sadly).
