Did Michelin apologize for their blame?
Michelin quickly expressed their statements at their web site, after the race. However, some Japanese fans who read the press release translated into Japanese by Michelin are angry (or embarrassed) with Michelin's attitude.
The reason why they think so is Michelin doesn't apologize in the press release translated into Japanese. The French word "REGRET" was translated into the English word "SORRY" ,and was translated into the Japanese word "IKAN", but "IKAN" has double meanings. The one is "I'm sorry to my faults" ,and the orher one is "I blame you your faults". So the Japanese have some distrust of Michelin. In your country, what impression do you have about Michelin's attitude(concering Michelin's press release)? How do you think about whether Michelin have a feeling to be sorry for the fans? Thank you for your reading my poor English. Last edited by hal*; 25 Jun 2005 at 08:31. Reason: change icons |

Does being old fashioned mean that you lose you go deaf
I have heard them say they messed up several times. Accepting responsibility. Of course if you want to look into the words you ill find what you wish! It is gratious to apologise it is also gratious to not seek it. Besides Michelin suffered from their mistake too! If you are looking for an apology then type "Michelin" and "apology" into google. http://www.sportinglife.com/others/n..._Michelin.html |

They've definitely accpeted blame and publically apologised - this appears to have been lost in translation, perhaps conveniently given that Bridgestone are Japanese.

Hmm, not sure what you mean by that last comment, Boots. I simply think that hal* (welcome to the boards by the way) is merely asking whether in our view Michelin has apologised, because the words used by Michelin are open to interpretation in Japanese. It's certainly not a problem that is unique to the Japanese language either.

As for an apology from michelin, yes they made a mistake. But FIA should have had a contingency for such a situation. I feel Michelin had no other option than to accept fault and cop their right whack. It seems the rules allow 'no' margin for error without penalty. |

I'm sure Michelin had recognised their fault and admitted just as much. So far however i have not heard a proper official statement, and at least not one without some "..BUT" factor in it.
They accept the mistake, but don't seem to accept the blame and responsibility in a convinced manner. But i guess it doesn't matter. As long as it doesn't happen again |

It doesn't matter if it happens again - Michelin would score no points in that race and Bridgestone would.
That's the motivation. |

I don't know.. But honestly i hope both tyre manufacturers learn from it and take corrective measures to prevent this kind of things from happening. Afterall, apologies meant nothing if you don't learn and are going to commit the same problem again. The damage is done.
But in competition, i guess this won't be the last time. Afterall, we did have a similar, but smaller, occurrence when a couple of Michelin tyres blew in Bahrain practice when it was first used, and Michelin blamed the track kerbs for it, asking for the offending parts of the track to be changed over-night. The only thing stopping manufacturers from putting other factors ahead of safety is the fear of bad image and ruin reputations in events of crash/failures. |
